After Officially Signing Bruno Guimaraes, Arteta Urges Arsenal to Sign a New Defender
Mansion Sports – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club are actively searching for additional players during the summer transfer window.
The statement came shortly after The Gunners officially introduced their major signing, Bruno Guimaraes, ahead of their latest pre-season match.
Arteta remains determined to strengthen his squad in order to compete for major trophies in the upcoming season.
Arsenal Are Still Searching for New Players
According to the Evening Standard, Arteta indicated that Arsenal have not finished their activities in the summer transfer market after successfully securing Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a transfer fee of £75 million.
The club had previously secured agreements for Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, and Piero Hincapie, but Arteta still wants to add further quality to his squad.
The Gunners are reportedly targeting additional attacking options as well as a versatile defender, considering that Jurrien Timber and William Saliba are currently unavailable.
When asked whether supporters could expect another new arrival, Arteta said:
"Yes, that is what we are trying to do. If there is the right player available in the transfer market who can make us significantly better, we are very eager for that opportunity."
Defensive Issues and Efforts to Improve Team Performance
Arsenal experienced several weaknesses in their defensive line during pre-season preparations, conceding three goals against Borussia Dortmund and another three goals when facing Real Betis in Dublin.
However, Arteta refused to blame only the defensive line and insisted that improving performances is the responsibility of the entire team.
Arteta explained:
"I do not want to immediately look at that and place it only as a problem in one area. We conceded some poor goals a few days ago, and some poor goals today. Especially in the way we competed. However, it is a shared responsibility. So we have to improve with the players we have. And of course, we want to become better."
The manager remains confident that his squad has the ability to resolve those issues together.
Arteta Praises New Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes
Arteta is highly enthusiastic about the impact Guimaraes has already made during training sessions. The manager highlighted the Brazilian player's attitude and certain technical abilities that are considered important for the club's future.
Arteta said:
"We can see it very clearly, especially the energy that he immediately brought to the training ground, the hunger, and the desire to come here and create great history with the club. That is the ambition we need."
"We want to reach the next level and I am very convinced that we need players with that personality, desire, and character to push everyone within the organization to continue developing and reaching higher levels."
"His flexibility to play in two different positions according to what we want or what the opponent does. A player who clearly has an exceptional ability to read the timing and incredible intuition to win the ball back and build the game very quickly."
"He is a player who is extremely comfortable providing passes to his teammates, moving between the opponent's defensive lines, and making runs into spaces behind the defence. In addition, he is also a threat in front of goal. He has excellent instincts and timing to enter the penalty area. He also has the ability to finish chances."
