Amorim Highlights Manchester United’s Mentality After Draw Against Fulham

Mansion SportsManchester United manager Ruben Amorim emphasized that his team must become “more mature” after failing to secure their first victory of the Premier League season.

United were held to a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage, despite having taken the lead earlier in the second half.

A Quick Goal Cancelled Out in an Instant

Manchester United broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Rodrigo Muniz scored an own goal. However, their advantage was short-lived. Just 94 seconds after coming on as a substitute, Emile Smith Rowe struck for Fulham to level the match.

This result means that United are still without a win this season, following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend.

Amorim’s Criticism of the Team’s Mentality

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Amorim expressed his disappointment with the team’s response after scoring.

“I think after we scored, we forgot how to play. All the players were only thinking about protecting the lead, when in fact that was the moment to enjoy and push the opponent even harder,” he explained.

Amorim believed his side left too much space for Fulham by focusing excessively on defending the advantage rather than controlling the game.

A Call for Greater Maturity

The Portuguese manager stressed the importance of developing a stronger mentality on the pitch.

“We need to grow a lot as a team. Training sessions have been very good, and the players’ hard work is clear to see during matches.

But to truly mature, we must learn how to maintain the right mindset after scoring. That composure only comes with the experience of winning,” Amorim stated.

Improvement Targets for Upcoming Matches

Amorim also acknowledged that United must work on managing shifts in momentum, which have repeatedly cost them points.

“We suffered at the end because Fulham’s goal shifted the momentum in their favor,” he admitted.

Upcoming Fixtures

Manchester United will face League Two side Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

After that, they will return to Premier League action by hosting Burnley at Old Trafford on August 30, as they continue their search for a first victory of the season.
