Driving Under the Influence, Real Madrid Defender Faces Severe Sanctions
Mansion Sports â Real Madrid have taken immediate action against academy graduate Raul Asencio after the defender was caught driving under the influence of alcohol while traveling to Gran Canaria.
The young player who once had a promising future at the Bernabeu now faces serious internal disciplinary proceedings in addition to the legal punishment imposed on him.
Disciplinary Proceedings at the Bernabeu
Real Madrid have officially opened extraordinary disciplinary proceedings against Asencio following the recent legal issues he faced in connection with the drunk-driving incident.
The defender was stopped at an alcohol testing checkpoint at 6:30 a.m. on August 16 in the southern area of Gran Canaria while driving under the influence of alcohol, a situation that forced the clubâs leadership to take immediate action.
According to journalist Melchor Ruiz, Real Madrid have opened disciplinary proceedings against the player, signaling that his behavior will not be overlooked by the leadership at Valdebebas.
The incident came to light on Wednesday, prompting the club to act quickly to protect its public image and maintain its internal standards.
The player tested positive in both the initial alcohol test and the second test, with reports stating that his readings were significantly above the permitted limit.
He was subsequently summoned to appear in an expedited trial, where he was fined âŹ14,400, payable at âŹ120 per day over four months, as well as having his driving license suspended for eight months.
Heavy Fine and Potential Suspension Loom
The series of sanctions Asencio could face is governed by the collective agreement between La Liga and AFE (Spanish Footballersâ Association).
Under the guidelines, the defenderâs actions could be classified as a serious or very serious offense, both of which carry substantial punishments.
If the club considers the incident a serious offense, Asencio could have his salary deducted for a period ranging from two to ten days.
If Real Madrid classifies the incident as a very serious contractual violation, the punishment will increase significantly to reflect the severity of the situation.
In this scenario, the suspension could last between eleven and thirty days, while the fine could reach up to 25% of the first âŹ100,000 of his monthly salary.
Declining Status for Academy Graduate
Asencio was once regarded as the face of the Real Madrid academy when he broke into the first team, but his development has suffered a significant setback in recent months.
The defender has experienced a major decline on the pitch and is currently not even the fourth-choice option at center-back.
This latest scandal further isolates a player who was already in the clubâs bad books after refusing to leave during the summer transfer window, a decision that reportedly prevented the club from pursuing new signings.
Asencioâs Off-Field Problems Deepen
The timing of this incident is highly damaging for the Spanish player as it further reinforces the perception of a lack of professionalism during an important period of his career.
In addition to the drunk-driving allegations, the player is also facing other legal complications that have overshadowed his future for some time.
Reports state that he still faces the threat of a two-year prison sentence in connection with a separate case involving privacy violations and the alleged distribution of private videos involving a minor.
The accumulation of various off-field issues has left his status at the club in a completely uncertain position.
