Mansion Sports – Atlético Madrid are monitoring Victor Osimhen as a contingency plan in case Julian Álvarez leaves the club.

Recently, significant tension has emerged between Atlético and Barcelona. The dispute was triggered by media reports claiming that Barça have intensified their efforts to sign Atlético star striker Álvarez and are already close to reaching an agreement to bring in the Argentine World Cup winner.

Atlético Madrid Insists Julian Álvarez Is Not for Sale

Los Rojiblancos responded to the reports with a cynical and strongly dismissive tone toward the Spanish champions, stating that they have absolutely no intention of parting ways with Álvarez. Instead, they described the 26-year-old as the "cornerstone of their project."

Nevertheless, Barça are reported to have submitted an opening offer. On Monday, Mundo Deportivo claimed that a bid worth €100 million had been sent via email to the capital club.

Barcelona are not the only interested party. Newly crowned Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and English champions Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring Álvarez’s situation.

Atlético Madrid Targets Victor Osimhen

For that reason, it is entirely understandable that Atlético have begun searching for a high-quality alternative. According to Mundo Deportivo, the team that finished fourth last season has turned its attention to Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian international, who joined Galatasaray on a permanent basis last summer after a loan spell, played a crucial role in helping the club secure back-to-back Turkish league titles.

With his contract in Istanbul running until 2029, any interested club would need to prepare between €70 million and €100 million to sign the former Wolfsburg striker.

He is also said to be at the top of Manchester United’s transfer shortlist.

Atlético Madrid Must Strengthen Their Attack

Regardless of what happens with Álvarez, Atlético still need to invest in their attacking line.

Following the departure of Antoine Griezmann, Los Rojiblancos have lost one of the most productive goalscorers and assist providers in the club’s history.
