Mansion Sports – Barcelona endured a second consecutive defeat on Sunday night after being humiliated 4-1 by Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. 

The loss delivered a significant blow to Hansi Flick’s side, who had the opportunity to return to the top of the La Liga standings with a victory. 

However, a disappointing display in Andalusia completely dashed that chance and left the Catalan giants reeling.

According to a report from Diario AS, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick admitted after the match that his players were deeply affected by the result. 

He acknowledged that the team’s performance in the first half was particularly poor, though he noted a slight improvement after the interval.

Flick: “We Did Not Play Well in the First Half”

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Flick did not hide his frustration with his team’s disorganized display from the very beginning of the match. 

He praised Sevilla’s intensity and aggressiveness while admitting that Barcelona failed to handle the pressure effectively.

“They played with great aggression in the first half, and we simply couldn’t find a way to escape that pressure,” Flick stated. 

“In the second half, we showed some reaction. What matters most now is that we focus on correcting our mistakes so that this kind of performance does not happen again.”

Despite the heavy defeat, Flick emphasized his appreciation for the team’s fighting spirit and their determination to respond positively.

“We are one team, and our injured players will soon return. I value the effort we showed in the second half. Losing always hurts, but I was pleased to see the anger and desire to improve in the dressing room — that’s a positive sign. Now we have the international break, and after that, we must come back stronger,” he added.

Not the Worst Defeat, But a Serious Warning

When asked whether the loss to Sevilla was the most painful result since taking over as Barcelona’s head coach in the summer of 2024, Flick rejected the idea, though he admitted it was a serious wake-up call.

“The toughest defeat for me remains the semifinal in Milan (against Inter). I have to accept this result and try to take something positive from it. We have many areas that need improvement, especially the mistakes we made in the first half. We lost control in several phases of the game. Still, this is not the hardest loss to accept,” the German manager explained.

His comments reflected an effort to maintain morale within the squad despite the mounting pressure following consecutive defeats — including the recent setback in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

International Break Offers Crucial Opportunity for Reflection

Flick also highlighted that the international break had arrived at an ideal moment for Barcelona, giving the team an opportunity to regroup both physically and mentally. 

He expressed hope that the players representing their national teams would use the time to recharge and return with renewed motivation.

“This break is very important. The players will join their national teams and experience a different atmosphere — that can be a positive thing,” said Flick. 

“I told them that when they come back, we will work hard to restore our playing level. But for that, we need everyone to be 100% fit.”

With the team currently struggling for consistency, the international break presents Flick with a valuable window to reflect on his tactical approach and make the necessary adjustments.

Barcelona remain second in the league standings, but if they fail to regain their rhythm soon, they risk losing momentum in the race for the La Liga title.
