Mansion Sports – Harry Maguire is reportedly increasingly likely to sign a new contract with Manchester United after successfully reviving his career under the leadership of interim manager Michael Carrick.

The England international defender’s contract is set to expire next summer, but his performances in recent weeks have been considered highly convincing. He has formed a solid partnership at the heart of the defense alongside Lisandro Martinez.

The 32-year-old defender regained his place in the starting lineup following the injury suffered by Matthijs de Ligt.

Maguire Becomes a Key Figure Again After Carrick’s Appointment

Maguire’s experience and leadership qualities had previously been appreciated by former manager Ruben Amorim, although he was not always the first-choice option.

In recent years, Manchester United have brought in players such as Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, yet Maguire has remained a consistent presence in the defensive line.

Last season, he made 40 appearances in all competitions and contributed four goals.

England Defender Prepared to Receive a New Contract

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Maguire’s positive performances have prompted the club’s management to prepare a new contract as a reward.

The outlet states that the likelihood of the former Leicester City player receiving a contract extension is now increasing, considering that his current deal will expire in the summer.

Maguire currently earns a weekly salary of £180,000 and is reportedly eager to remain at Old Trafford for as long as possible.

He joined Manchester United in 2019 through an £80 million transfer from Leicester City.

The club and the player are reportedly hopeful of reaching an agreement regarding the salary terms and duration of the new contract.

To date, Maguire has made 260 appearances in all competitions for United, winning the EFL Cup in the 2022–2023 season and the FA Cup in the 2023–2024 season.

As a player whose contract is nearing its expiration, Maguire is also free to hold discussions with other clubs in Europe.

Italian giants AC Milan were reportedly said to have made an approach during the January transfer window.

In addition, Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah, currently managed by Brendan Rodgers, are also reported to have shown interest.

Maguire Shines During De Ligt’s Absence

Matthijs de Ligt had previously emerged as an important leader in United’s defensive line. However, the injury he suffered opened the opportunity for Maguire to demonstrate his quality once again.

Maguire’s solid performances alongside Lisandro Martinez mean that De Ligt will have to work hard to reclaim his place once he recovers.

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has also supported Maguire in securing a new contract.

He stated that under Michael Carrick, Maguire has proven that he is still capable of performing his duties exceptionally well.

According to him, Maguire’s current performances could also attract interest from other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have shown impressive performances since Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season.

Surprising victories over Manchester City and Arsenal in Carrick’s first two matches, followed by positive results against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, lifted the Red Devils to fourth place in the Premier League standings.

An additional three points against West Ham United in midweek would see them surpass Aston Villa on goal difference.

After that match, United will next play on Monday, 23 February, when they travel to Everton.

They will then face a series of matches against Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa.

In terms of player contracts, Manchester United have confirmed that experienced midfielder Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, left-back Tyrell Malacia is also expected to seek a new club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
