Mansion Sports – Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was taken to the hospital after suffering a concerning injury during the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

The Georgia international goalkeeper had to be stretchered off during the 2-1 victory over Everton, adding to The Reds’ selection concerns.

Mamardashvili Taken to the Hospital

The goalkeeper sustained the injury in a sequence that led to Everton’s equalizing goal, forcing Slot to await further updates on the condition of his current first-choice goalkeeper, while the club’s main goalkeeper Alisson Becker is still recovering from injury.

Providing an update on the goalkeeper after the final whistle, Slot confirmed the immediate medical action taken.

“He has been taken to the hospital,” said the Dutch coach to reporters. “In my opinion, and also based on the information I received, it is an open wound. This will not be a long-term injury, let us see whether he will be available next week.”

Chaos at Goodison Park

The injury occurred during a chaotic moment in the second half. As Beto moved to score the equalizer for The Toffees, Mamardashvili was involved in a heavy collision at a crucial moment that left him unable to continue the match.

The Georgian goalkeeper had been performing solidly as a replacement for Alisson, but the collision with Beto and defender Andrew Robertson left him in visible pain.

After several minutes of treatment on the field, the decision was made to use a stretcher, raising concerns about a prolonged absence during a critical phase of the Premier League season. Despite the setback, Liverpool managed to score the winning goal through Virgil van Dijk in stoppage time.

With Mamardashvili unable to finish the match, Slot was forced to field third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
