Joan Laporta Speaks About Raphinha’s Injury and Hansi Flick’s Contract
Mansion Sports – In recent days, Barcelona has been shaken by the news that Raphinha must be sidelined for most of the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with the Brazil national team.
The Catalan club will have to be without their key winger for approximately 4–5 weeks ahead, which is certainly a significant blow for Hansi Flick.
Barcelona’s Disappointment Over the Injury Situation
Barcelona is clearly the party that has been disadvantaged and has openly expressed disappointment regarding this situation, and that sentiment has now been conveyed by the elected president Joan Laporta.
This week, he spoke to Món Esport (via MD), with one of the topics discussed being the setback experienced by Raphinha, which he hopes can encourage FIFA to take action.
“In some respects, we should demand that FIFA create an international calendar that takes into account the competitions in which clubs participate. It is true that in a friendly match between France and Brazil in the United States, one of the best players in our squad suffered an injury, which is very troubling.
“And clearly, you also cannot ask players not to play (for their country), because they are professionals and, moreover, they play for their country and give everything.”
Talks on Hansi Flick’s Contract Will Take Place in the Summer
Laporta also confirmed that discussions regarding a contract extension with Flick will take place at the end of the season, with the main focus at present being to ensure that he and the entire first team remain concentrated on finishing the season with positive results.
“At the end of the season, we will discuss it. He (Hansi Flick) has no need to talk about his contract. He is someone who is very honest with himself and a highly professional individual.
“I believe he has earned a contract extension, but he prefers to discuss it at the end of the season, analyze the situation, and decide what should be done.
“If we add one more year, I think that would be sufficient. I believe he has the feeling that if he has a long-term contract, someone might think that he becomes too relaxed.”
