Mansion Sports – Kobbie Mainoo, who is currently experiencing a challenging spell at Manchester United, is being linked with a move to Arsenal, a club viewed by some as an ideal environment for rebuilding his career. 

Once a regular starter under former manager Erik ten Hag, the young midfielder has seen his role diminish significantly since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, raising questions about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Mainoo Linked with a January Transfer Exit

Having accumulated only 138 Premier League minutes under Amorim this season, speculation has intensified regarding a potential departure in the January transfer window. 

A loan move is seen as a plausible scenario, offering Mainoo the opportunity to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of the final squad selection for the 2026 World Cup in North America. 

Several clubs, including Serie A champions Napoli and West Ham United, have been mentioned as interested parties, although no formal offers have materialised.

Former Arsenal Star Recommends a Move to North London

Stefan Schwarz, a former Arsenal midfielder, has encouraged Mainoo to consider joining the Gunners, arguing that Mikel Arteta provides an ideal setting for the development of young talent.

Speaking to Hajper, Schwarz stated: “Arsenal offers the best conditions for young players. They have a manager in Mikel Arteta who is unafraid to give responsibilities and opportunities when he feels they are ready. It is about preparing them properly, and Arsenal have excelled in this over recent years.”

Declan Rice Seen as a Beneficial Influence for Mainoo

Another factor highlighted as potentially advantageous for Mainoo is the possibility of forming a midfield partnership with his England teammate Declan Rice. 

Rice’s leadership qualities and extensive experience could prove valuable in supporting the young midfielder’s growth. 

Praising Rice, Schwarz added: “Declan Rice is an exceptional player. I admire him greatly. He is a natural leader—versatile, dependable, and consistent. His passing is excellent, and his work ethic is outstanding. He is key to Arsenal, rarely injured, and has the right character. He supports his teammates and communicates well with the media, which is often overlooked.”

Amorim Explains Limited Playing Time at United

United manager Ruben Amorim recently addressed the reasons behind Mainoo’s limited minutes this season. 

He explained to reporters: “We must qualify for Europe—it is essential. It is difficult to maintain a very strong squad when playing only once a week. For me to give Mainoo significant minutes, he needs more matches in which I can rotate. With just one game per week, it becomes very hard. I would have to bench an in-form player to give another a chance. With more fixtures, it is easier to share time and manage the group differently. We are using the time we have to train and improve as a team, but the objective remains the same. Qualifying for Europe is crucial.”

Mainoo will be aiming for playing opportunities when United face Everton in the Premier League this weekend.
