Mansion Sports – Liverpool have officially begun preparing a succession plan for Mohamed Salah, who will turn 34 this year.

As the forward enters the final phase of his illustrious career at Anfield, the club known as The Reds have identified two prestigious targets from the Bundesliga to fill the future void.

Based on reports from Sky Sport Germany, the reigning Premier League champions are seriously monitoring Michael Olise of Bayern Munich, as well as Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, as part of their preparations for the post-Salah era.

Interest in Michael Olise and Alternative Yan Diomande

The Merseyside club has a long track record of recruiting talent from Germany’s top division, with several names such as Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch having previously adapted successfully at Anfield.

Olise, who moved to Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace, has long been on Liverpool’s radar.

Sky Sport even reported since last November that the France international has been under observation by The Reds.

However, the realization of a transfer is considered very difficult because Olise does not have a release clause and remains under contract until 2029, meaning Liverpool may have to consider other options if Bayern are unwilling to negotiate.

As the primary alternative, Liverpool have shifted their attention to Yan Diomande, who is only 19 years old and is currently attracting attention in the Bundesliga.

His consistent and impressive performances have drawn interest from several elite European clubs.

Liverpool are said to be monitoring the winger intensively in order to find a player with explosive pace and technical ability capable of replicating Salah’s contribution on the right side of the attack.

RB Leipzig are known as tough negotiators and are determined to retain their valuable asset for at least one more season. However, within the Red Bull system, every player has a transfer value.

The German club are reportedly willing to open discussions if they receive an offer in the region of 100 million euros or approximately 83 million pounds sterling.

Although Leipzig wish to convince Diomande to remain beyond the summer, the appeal of the Premier League and the opportunity to become the face of a new era at Liverpool could be decisive factors.

Potential Surprise Return in Defense

In addition to focusing on the attacking line, Liverpool are also reportedly seeking to address squad depth issues in defense by considering the return of a familiar face.

Jarell Quansah, who left Anfield for Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a transfer fee of around 35 million euros, is now linked with a potential surprise return.

The young English central defender has delivered impressive performances with Leverkusen, prompting Liverpool to consider activating a specific clause in the previous transfer agreement.

Sky Sport reports that Liverpool included a buy-back option worth 80 million euros that can be activated until May 2026.

With an urgent need to strengthen the center-back position, the club’s management are said to be seriously considering bringing back the academy graduate to increase competition for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

A Summer of Transition at Anfield

The potential arrival of Bundesliga talents coincides with uncertainty surrounding the future of several current squad members.

In addition to questions regarding the long-term continuation of Salah’s career, Federico Chiesa is also expected to depart following a January transfer window filled with speculation.

This situation could leave a significant void in the wing positions, thereby explaining the club’s proactive move in monitoring Olise and Diomande even before the summer window opens.

Salah was heavily linked with a move in January following his emotional statement after a 3-3 draw against Leeds United F.C. in December, when he said that he felt abandoned by the club.

In his statement at that time, Salah expressed his disbelief at having to sit on the bench for 90 minutes. He described the situation as the third time and the first throughout his career.

He admitted that he felt very frustrated because he believed he had made a major contribution to the club, especially in the previous season.

He also stated that he did not know the reason for being benched and felt as if the club had abandoned him, and considered that there were parties who wanted to blame him entirely.

Salah subsequently apologized to his teammates for his emotional outburst.

A January transfer ultimately did not occur because he joined the Egypt national team to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The team known as The Pharaohs were eliminated in the semifinal round by Senegal, who later emerged as champions.
