Mansion Sports – Liverpool FC are prepared to do everything possible to secure the transfer of RB Leipzig striker Yan Diomande this summer.

Sky Sports reports that Liverpool have identified the 19-year-old as the primary candidate to replace Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Serious Talks and High Transfer Value

The report states that “very concrete talks” have taken place between Liverpool and Diomande’s representatives.

Although the Premier League club has not yet made direct contact with RB Leipzig, that is expected to happen soon.

Liverpool may have to pay a very significant transfer fee for the Ivory Coast international, who is still under contract with RB Leipzig until 2030.

Sky reports that Leipzig are currently discussing a contract extension with Diomande’s representatives, and the club, which currently sits third in the Bundesliga and is on course for Champions League qualification thanks to his contributions, will demand a fee exceeding €100 million for their key striker.

Transfer Competition with PSG

If the transfer materializes, Diomande would become the fifth Bundesliga player to move for a fee of around €100 million, following Kai Havertz (€100 million, Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea, 2020), Florian Wirtz (€125 million, Leverkusen to Liverpool, 2025), Jude Bellingham (€127 million, Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid), and Ousmane Dembélé (2017, €148 million, Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona).

He only joined Leipzig last year from CD Leganés for €20 million and has since developed into one of the most promising talents in the Bundesliga, recording 13 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances this season.

He made his debut for the Ivory Coast national team in October and could potentially face Germany in the group stage of the World Cup this summer.

His rapid development has attracted the attention of several major European clubs. Liverpool are currently the favorites, but Paris Saint-Germain have also reportedly held discussions with the player’s representatives.

Ambition to Play for Liverpool

Diomande has openly stated that Liverpool is his childhood club. “I am a big Liverpool fan.

My father dreamed of seeing me play at Anfield one day. That is also my dream – and I want to make it come true,” he said in a TikTok video in January.

Liverpool have also been linked with another Ivory Coast player in the Bundesliga, Bazoumana Toure of TSG Hoffenheim, who is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in both Toure and Diomande.

Liverpool’s Situation and Salah’s Future

Qualifying for the Champions League remains Liverpool’s priority, and fifth place in the Premier League—currently their position—will be enough to secure qualification.

Their chances improved over the weekend when rivals Chelsea lost 0-1 to Manchester United, and a day later Liverpool defeated Everton 2-1 in the Merseyside derby. With five matches remaining, The Reds now hold a seven-point advantage over Chelsea.

Nevertheless, prominent journalist David Ornstein stated on The Athletic FC podcast that Klopp is likely to remain even if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The Dutch manager, who is under contract until 2027, had been under pressure following a disappointing season.

Amid the difficult campaign, he was even involved in a major dispute with star forward Mohamed Salah in December.

Although the two quickly reconciled, the Egyptian player announced at the end of March that he would leave one year before his contract expires. “Unfortunately, that day has now come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season,” said Salah.
