Manchester City Officially Sells Ederson to Fenerbahce for €14 Million
Mansion Sports - Manchester City has confirmed the departure of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson to Turkish giants Fenerbahce in a transfer deal worth €14 million (£12 million/$16 million). The move ends his eight-year tenure at the Etihad since joining from Benfica in 2017.
Ederson’s Glittering Career at Manchester City
During his time in Manchester, Ederson made 372 appearances across all competitions and became a cornerstone of the club’s most successful era.
His contributions included six Premier League titles and the long-awaited UEFA Champions League trophy.
However, the start of the 2025/26 campaign marked a turning point. Under Pep Guardiola, his role became increasingly limited, with fewer opportunities to feature in the starting lineup. This development prompted the 32-year-old goalkeeper to seek a fresh challenge with Fenerbahce.
An Emotional Farewell Message
In his official farewell statement, Ederson expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who shaped his journey at Manchester City:
“I want to extend my deepest thanks to Pep for the trust and knowledge he shared throughout these years. I am also grateful to my teammates—our relentless drive to win every match has been an extraordinary experience, making every day in training and the dressing room unforgettable. And of course, to the fans, thank you for making me feel at home despite being far from where I was born. Eight years ago, I arrived with hope, but I never imagined such a beautiful journey. Playing for City has been the most special chapter of my life, and I will always remain part of this club. Once Blue, forever Blue.”
Fenerbahce’s Warm Welcome
Fenerbahce greeted Ederson’s arrival with great enthusiasm. In their official statement, the Istanbul-based club confirmed that the goalkeeper had already landed in Turkey to finalize his contract signing.
Manchester City’s Successor Already Secured
Ederson’s departure will not leave City exposed between the posts. The club has already lined up a successor, completing the signing of Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.
Donnarumma is reported to have agreed to a long-term contract and will be officially unveiled shortly.
A Challenging Start to the New Season
Despite resolving their goalkeeping situation, Manchester City continues to face difficulties on the pitch.
The team has managed only one victory from their opening three Premier League fixtures this season.
After the international break, a stern test awaits Pep Guardiola’s side as they prepare for the Manchester derby against United on September 14.
