Manchester United Consider €60 Million Move for Stuttgart Midfielder Angelo Stiller
Mansion Sports – Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a potential move for Stuttgart’s German international midfielder Angelo Stiller, who could be available for around €60 million (approximately $53 million).
Stiller has emerged as one of six midfielders on the club’s shortlist, as manager Ruben Amorim is said to be eager to strengthen his squad’s central area.
Manchester United Aim to Reinforce the Midfield
Following a major summer overhaul after a disappointing 2024–2025 campaign that saw Manchester United finish 15th in the Premier League and fail to win a trophy, Amorim is now turning his focus toward reinforcing the team’s midfield.
The Portuguese manager previously attempted to sign Brighton’s young midfielder Carlos Baleba at the end of the last transfer window, but negotiations ultimately broke down.
Since then, reports have indicated that United have compiled a six-man shortlist for the central midfield position, featuring names such as Angelo Stiller and Adam Wharton.
Amorim’s emphasis on rebuilding the team’s core has made midfield recruitment one of the club’s primary objectives heading into the next transfer window.
Jason Wilcox Drives Interest in Stiller
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano via GiveMeSport, Manchester United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, has been a long-time admirer of Stiller’s abilities and has monitored his development closely over recent seasons.
Wilcox is believed to be one of the key figures pushing for the club to pursue the German midfielder.
During the previous summer transfer window, United were already linked with Stiller, although no formal bid was made to Stuttgart.
The same report suggested that Stuttgart could activate a €2 million release clause within Stiller’s contract—valid until 2028—before setting an official asking price estimated between €50 million and €60 million (£44 million–£53 million).
However, the deal appears unlikely to materialize in the upcoming January transfer window, as Manchester United are not expected to commit significant funds so soon after their heavy summer spending. Discussions regarding a potential move for Stiller are anticipated to take place next summer.
Adam Wharton Also on Manchester United’s Radar
In addition to Stiller, Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Despite the growing speculation, the England international has downplayed the rumors. Speaking to The Athletic, Wharton expressed his relaxed stance on the reports:
“I don’t really think about it or try to find out more. There are always rumors circulating on social media. Are they true? Are they not? I don’t know. My friends, family, and brothers often message me asking, ‘Is it true that they’re interested?’ and I just reply, ‘Thanks for letting me know because I had no idea.’ I don’t know who spreads it or who at United might be watching.”
“I look at it and think, ‘Okay,’ then go about my day as usual. Big clubs like United are linked with 10 or 20 players at a time. If I’m one of them, it’s nothing special, so I don’t overthink it. I talk with my agent about future plans and possibilities, but in the end, what matters is who is genuinely interested and willing to make an effort to sign you. If that happens, then you talk—but first, you have to prove on the pitch that you deserve it.”
Real Madrid Were Previously Linked with Angelo Stiller
During the previous transfer window, Spanish outlet AS reported that Real Madrid had considered a move for Angelo Stiller. The Spanish giants were exploring midfield options as they continued to search for long-term replacements for Toni Kroos—who retired in 2024—and Luka Modric, who joined AC Milan on a free transfer during the summer.
Despite their initial interest, Real Madrid never submitted an official offer to Stuttgart for Stiller, leaving the door open for other European clubs, including Manchester United, to pursue the talented German midfielder.
