Mansion Sports – Manchester United are reportedly feeling “frustrated” with the agreement they reached with Barcelona regarding the loan of Marcus Rashford.

The England international forward is spending the 2025-26 season with the team managed by Hansi Flick, under a deal that includes a purchase option valued at £26 million (£30 million).

However, Rashford’s impressive performances with the Catalan giants have caused Manchester United to fear that his market value has now increased significantly.

Rashford Shines at Barcelona

Rashford managed to leave behind the various issues he experienced at Manchester United and has played an important role in Flick’s squad.

Although not always a first-choice starter, he has recorded 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions with Barcelona.

An injury suffered by Raphinha opened the opportunity for Rashford to demonstrate his abilities in front of Flick, and he subsequently received praise from the coach for his contribution.

Flick stated: “What I can say is that he is a very professional player. His attitude and mentality are extraordinary. At the beginning he needed a little time to adapt, but now he is at his best level. I speak with the players when they are not playing, explaining the reasons, and what he said to me the last time was, ‘Boss, you do not need to explain this to me, what matters is the team. We must get three points, nothing is more important.’ That is the correct attitude. The mentality he possesses is fantastic and I am very pleased he is here.”

Barcelona are believed to want to make Rashford’s loan status permanent and have held discussions with Manchester United to reduce the asking price.

However, the Red Devils are unwilling to lower the valuation that has been set for the 28-year-old player.

Manchester United Disappointed with the Transfer Agreement

According to a report by The Mirror, Manchester United even feel disappointed with the agreement that was concluded with Barcelona after witnessing Rashford excel in Catalonia.

Club executives now believe that Barcelona could secure Rashford at a low price next summer, as they estimate that the player’s value has now reached approximately £50 million (€57 million).

The Red Devils are also aware of interest from several other clubs seeking to recruit Rashford ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

In addition, there is speculation that Rashford could be recalled to Manchester United if Michael Carrick remains in charge as manager.

However, one of the club’s owners, Jim Ratcliffe, is reportedly still determined to sell the forward in order to reduce the club’s wage burden.

Statements Regarding Rashford’s Future

Rashford spoke about his future in December and reaffirmed his desire to continue his career at Barcelona after the season concludes.

He told Sport: “Of course what I want is to stay at Barça. That is the ultimate objective, but it is not the reason I train hard and give my best. The objective is to win. Barça are a big and extraordinary club, built to win titles. I have adapted very well to the club and the city. Since I arrived, I feel that everyone has welcomed me very well. For me, the reason I am here is to help the team win trophies; last season was extraordinary, but in life everything moves quickly, everything changes and our objective is to repeat that success. I am fully focused on this. With the staff and teammates everything is very good, I have no complaints.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed that no decision has been made regarding Rashford’s future.

He told Cadena SER in December: “No decision has been made regarding Marcus Rashford. This is not the right time to make a decision about the future. We are happy with him, Rashford gives us a lot. Strategically, this is not the time to speak about transfers.”

What Lies Ahead for Rashford

At present, Rashford is sidelined due to a knee injury, but he is expected to return soon and hopes to maintain his strong performances until the end of the season. After that, Barcelona must determine whether to activate the purchase option for him.

That decision is not expected to be straightforward. Financial issues continue to affect Barcelona’s transfer planning, and the club may require a new central striker if Robert Lewandowski departs in the summer after his contract expires.

In addition, Barcelona’s defensive weaknesses, which were evident in recent defeats to Atletico Madrid and Girona, could make strengthening the back line a higher priority than retaining Rashford.
