Manchester United Target Sandro Tonali for Summer Transfer
Mansion Sports – Manchester United are reportedly preparing a major move in the summer transfer window by targeting Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
The club known as the Red Devils are set to part ways with veteran Brazilian midfielder Casemiro when his contract expires and he becomes a free agent.
This situation forces Manchester United to seek new reinforcements in the midfield at Old Trafford.
Reports suggest that the Italy international midfielder will be valued at up to ÂŁ100 million.
Tonali Expected to Become the Center of a Summer Transfer Saga Again
The name Sandro Tonali generated significant speculation ahead of the closure of the winter transfer window, when his future at St James’ Park began to be questioned.
Arsenal, who were competing in the title race at the time, were said to be showing interest as Mikel Arteta searched for new options after Mikel Merino suffered an untimely injury.
Although reports of an approach from the Emirates Stadium were quickly denied, rumors regarding Tonali’s potential departure from northeast England did not completely subside.
The midfielder is expected to once again become part of a major transfer saga when the next transfer window officially opens.
Manchester United Consider Several Midfield Targets
According to a report from The Telegraph, Manchester United are certain to enter the competition.
Juventus are said to hold serious interest in the former AC Milan player and are planning to bring him back to Italy. However, the Red Devils are ready to offer Tonali a continuation of his career in English football.
Tonali is one of several names currently being monitored by Manchester United. In addition to him, Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson is also on the radar, along with another England international, Adam Wharton, who currently plays for Crystal Palace.
Manchester City are also reported to be monitoring Tonali’s situation, as the club consistently seeks players who have proven themselves in the Premier League.
If Newcastle are tempted to sell the midfielder, they could potentially secure a significant profit, considering Tonali was signed from AC Milan in 2023 for a transfer fee of ÂŁ55 million.
Newcastle have Tonali under contract until 2029, ensuring that his valuation remains at a very high level.
The club has observed players such as Declan Rice, Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo move clubs for nine-figure transfer fees.
Therefore, it is believed that a similar amount would be required to prise the hard-working midfielder away from Tyneside.
Eddie Howe Emphasizes Tonali Is Happy at St James’ Park
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe emphasized that the number eight appears happy with his current situation.
Responding to rumors on the final day of the transfer window, he stated that there was never any intention from the club to let Tonali leave.
Howe stressed that Tonali feels comfortable, enjoys his football at Newcastle, and loves the city.
He said that he had spoken directly with the player and confirmed that Tonali’s focus is entirely on Newcastle. According to Howe, there are no issues whatsoever regarding Tonali’s commitment and professionalism.
When asked about the possibility of a repeat of the situation involving Alexander Isak, which led to an expensive move to Liverpool in 2025, Howe stated that he did not see signs pointing in that direction, although he acknowledged that many things can happen beyond his control.
He described Tonali as an outstanding footballer and person, who has an excellent relationship with him and his teammates, and who appears happy with his current condition.
Howe also emphasized that the best players will always attract interest from other clubs, which is a reality in football.
He reaffirmed Newcastle’s desire to maintain team cohesion and continue developing, with Tonali as an important part of those plans.
Overall, Howe does not see any issues, although he is aware that not every aspect is within his control.
Will Newcastle Compete in the Champions League Next Season
Tonali’s agent made a statement that opened the possibility for clubs such as Manchester United to make a move in the future. He stated that Newcastle currently find it difficult to release Tonali, while the player has ambitions to lead the club into the Champions League.
The agent emphasized that all options will be evaluated in the upcoming summer. A decision regarding Tonali’s future will be made after seeing how this season ends. He stressed that there is no specific preference at this stage, and the situation may change over time.
According to him, Newcastle are unlikely to release Tonali at present, and a transfer is not a priority, given the player’s emotional attachment to the club.
Tonali is said to be seeking participation in the Champions League in the 2026–2027 season. At present, Manchester United sit in the top four of the Premier League standings.
Meanwhile, Newcastle, who are preparing to face Qarabag in the playoff round of the knockout phase of Europe’s elite competition this season, are languishing in 12th place in the English top-flight standings.
