Moise Kean Sidelined by Injury, Mancini Urges Italy Not to Underestimate Opponents
Mansion Sports – Italy national team manager Roberto Mancini demands full focus from his players ahead of their UEFA Nations League meeting with Turkey.
The former Saudi Arabia national team manager emphasized that their opponents remain a serious threat despite going through a difficult run of results.
The Azzurri manager also confirmed major bad news for his attacking options as the squad prepares for their fourth match during a busy international break.
Kean Misses Out as Mancini Rotates the Squad
Italy’s attacking depth will be tested on Monday night after reports emerged that Moise Kean has been forced to leave the national team camp.
The forward had been dealing with fitness issues throughout the week, and after failing to complete a full training session with his international teammates, the decision was eventually made to send him back to his club for further examinations and recovery.
"Moise is not in good condition, he has not recovered, so he will go home tonight," Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.
The manager explained that the packed Nations League schedule has forced him to make several changes to his team selection, adding:
"We are trying some different players because there are several matches being played close together, and that causes fatigue."
"There is a possibility that [Gianluca] Scamacca could start instead of Pio Esposito, because he has similar characteristics, but we have many players."
Fresh Players Expected to Feature in Bologna
Stadio Dall'Ara will host an Italy side expected to undergo several changes as Mancini attempts to manage the physical workload of his key players.
The Azzurri began their Nations League campaign with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Belgium before bouncing back with a dominant 4-1 victory in Bursa and securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against France at Stade de France.
Reports suggest that Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Romano are the leading candidates to return to the starting lineup, providing the technical quality and work rate in midfield that Mancini is looking for.
In addition, changes in defense are also expected, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo tipped to replace Michael Kayode at right-back.
Strong Warning Against Complacency
Despite the statistical gap between the two countries in Group A, Mancini refuses to become complacent.
Turkey currently sit at the bottom of the standings after suffering three consecutive defeats, scoring just one goal and conceding eight during their difficult campaign.
"Turkey are a strong team, this is not a match that can be taken lightly," Mancini stressed during his pre-match media duties. He emphasized that the players’ mentality will be just as important as their tactical execution on Monday night.
Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
Mancini remains focused on building long-term strength and identity as Italy look to secure three important points in the Nations League, where they currently sit third in Group A with four points, behind leaders France on seven points and second-placed Belgium on six points.
"The important thing is to give this team a sense of solidity and make them believe in themselves again. We are in no danger whatsoever of underestimating our opponents tomorrow," Mancini concluded, emphasizing that internal standards and renewed confidence remain priorities ahead of Monday’s match.
