Mansion Sports – Fulham have opened negotiations with Real Madrid regarding the possible transfer of talented striker Gonzalo García.

The 22-year-old forward has emerged as the Cottagers' primary target as they seek to strengthen their attacking line ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

According to The Athletic, García's move could reunite him with Fulham's new head coach, Álvaro Arbeloa, who has made the striker his top priority during this summer's transfer window.

Arbeloa is known as García's football mentor and is reportedly playing an active role in the ongoing negotiations between the two clubs to bring the Spanish player to West London.

Arbeloa was appointed as Fulham head coach earlier this month after leaving the Santiago Bernabéu, a position that was subsequently filled by José Mourinho.

If the agreement is completed, García will become Fulham's first signing of the summer transfer window.

Although Swedish striker Jonah Kusi-Asare has joined permanently from Bayern Munich, that move was the continuation of his successful loan spell at Craven Cottage throughout the 2025–2026 season.

García is a graduate of Real Madrid's renowned academy, La Fábrica, who gradually established himself in the first team.

He made his senior debut in November 2023 under Carlo Ancelotti and has since made 51 appearances for the club.

While playing for the first team, García demonstrated his clinical finishing by scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists.

He also displayed the ability to play in multiple positions, a quality that Arbeloa believes is perfectly suited to the physical demands of the Premier League.

García's biggest breakthrough on the international stage came when Real Madrid reached the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup last summer.

García was Real Madrid's outstanding player during the tournament, winning the Golden Boot after scoring four goals.

His rapid development earned him a lucrative new contract with the club that currently runs until 2030. Although he already has a long-term contract, the fierce competition at Real Madrid has now created the possibility of his departure.

Last season was a productive one for García, who scored eight goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

However, his opportunities in La Liga were limited to just nine starts, primarily because of the presence of France national team captain Kylian Mbappé, who remains José Mourinho's first-choice striker.

That lack of playing time hindered García's development at the international level, although he continues to be a highly respected figure across Spain's various national youth teams.

García made his senior debut for the Spain national team by coming on as a second-half substitute in a friendly match against Iraq in June.

Despite his tremendous potential, he was ultimately not selected by Luis de la Fuente for Spain's squad at this summer's World Cup, which the team went on to win.
