Mansion Sports – Liverpool have received strong advice to reconsider their stance on Trent Alexander-Arnold and explore the controversial possibility of bringing the defender back to Anfield.

The right-back left his boyhood club to join Real Madrid last summer, but he has struggled to make an impact in Spain, prompting calls for him to make a sensational return to the Premier League to help address the squad's current issues.

A Difficult Time in Spain

Alexander-Arnold left Merseyside to join Real Madrid last summer, a decision that deeply disappointed many supporters of his boyhood club.

However, the move to Spain has not gone according to plan. Alexander-Arnold started only 14 La Liga matches last season and failed to score in all competitions for the first time since his debut season with the senior team.

Speaking to talkSPORT on the Transfer Insiders program, Angelina Kelly argued that Liverpool have clear reasons to consider a reunion.

Kelly believes the club should set emotions aside, pointing out that Liverpool have weaknesses in defense after Conor Bradley suffered an injury and Jeremie Frimpong is better suited to a more attacking role.

Forgiving the Controversial Departure

The move to Real Madrid created a significant rift between Alexander-Arnold and the supporters, but Kelly believes the time to forgive is drawing closer.

"I know what it feels like when a player, in your opinion, betrays the club—especially a homegrown player, and even more so someone from Liverpool. I understand," Kelly said.

"When Real Madrid come calling, it is very difficult to say no—we have to be honest about that—and he made that decision, but things have not really gone well."

"Then you look at Liverpool and ask whether they need a new right-back. I mean, Frimpong did not perform particularly well last season—I think he might be better suited to playing further forward—Bradley is injured... I think perhaps they should accept the situation and start exploring Trent's situation."

The Threat from Denzel Dumfries

The situation in Spain has become even more complicated for Alexander-Arnold following the arrival of Denzel Dumfries. Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly giving preference to Dumfries because of his defensive strength, causing Alexander-Arnold to fall further down the pecking order.

Responding to the situation, Kelly added: "I am not saying that you should sign him immediately—let's first see whether this is possible. Because Real Madrid have signed another right-back, Denzel Dumfries—that is not good news for Trent."

"So why doesn't everyone take responsibility... acknowledge the situation together, and then we can all come back together and be happy? I think there is always a way back, and there is certainly at least one Liverpool supporter who wants to see him return—I am sure I am not alone."
