Arsenal Defeat Olympiacos in the Champions League

Mansion SportsArsenal secured an important victory with a 2-0 triumph over Olympiacos on matchday two of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League group stage at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Gabriel Martinelli in the first half and Bukayo Saka in stoppage time sealed a convincing win for the North London side.

Martinelli Provides a Quick Breakthrough

The game began at a high tempo, with Olympiacos attempting to dictate play through Chiquinho, while Arsenal responded with aggressive pressing in midfield.

The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute through a swift counterattack. Martin Ødegaard surged forward from midfield and delivered a precise through ball to Viktor Gyökeres

Although the striker’s shot was parried by the goalkeeper, Martinelli reacted quickest to convert the rebound and give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

Olympiacos tried to hit back immediately by exploiting width on the flanks. In the 19th minute, Chiquinho delivered a perfect cross to Daniel Podence, whose volley was brilliantly denied by David Raya with a reflex save. Arsenal held onto their narrow advantage as the first half concluded.

Arsenal Dominate the Second Half

After the interval, Arsenal tightened their grip on the game, controlling possession and dictating tempo.

Ødegaard continued to orchestrate attacks, while Olympiacos looked to threaten with quick counterattacks.

A golden opportunity came in the 64th minute when Ødegaard supplied an accurate pass to Leandro Trossard, but his effort was blocked by the outstanding defensive intervention of Lorenzo Pirola

Just moments later, Chiquinho thought he had equalized, only for the goal to be ruled out due to El Kaabi straying offside in the build-up.

Saka Seals the Victory in Stoppage Time

Olympiacos’ hopes of a comeback were kept alive largely thanks to goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, who produced two vital saves in the 83rd minute to deny Ødegaard.

However, Arsenal’s persistence was rewarded in injury time. Bukayo Saka capitalized on a lapse in concentration from the visiting defense, firing home a precise finish to secure a 2-0 result.

The victory ensured Arsenal maintained their perfect start in this season’s Champions League, while Olympiacos endured further disappointment after failing to record a win in their opening two group stage matches.
