Benjamin Sesko Speaks After Manchester United’s Victory Over Everton

Mansion SportsBenjamin Sesko expressed his confidence after scoring the decisive goal in Manchester United’s important victory over Everton, and also shared his views on the fact that he has not started a match since being managed by Michael Carrick.

Sesko’s goal secured victory in a tightly contested match at Hill Dickinson Stadium and moved United three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Sesko Makes the Difference from the Bench

The Slovenian forward scored three goals in two matches when Darren Fletcher served as interim coach following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, including when he started in the league match against Burnley and in the FA Cup third-round defeat to Brighton.

Since Carrick took charge, he has not started a single match, yet he has continued to demonstrate effectiveness by scoring in three of his five brief appearances as a substitute.

The £74 million striker has gradually begun to justify his transfer fee, with his goals against Fulham, West Ham, and Everton earning a total of five points for United, bringing them closer to their primary objective of qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in three years.

Sesko emphasised the high level of confidence he possesses after once again proving decisive on Merseyside, and explained why he accepts the role of finisher rather than always being a starter.

Sesko: It Does Not Matter Whether I Start or Not

In an interview with Sky Sports, Sesko stated: “For me, the most important thing is that every time I come on, I try to help the team. That is the reason I am here. Whether it is five minutes or 90 minutes, it does not matter too much. The main thing is to show that I can contribute whenever possible and I am very happy with that. I believe in myself and the other players believe as well. They know what they will get when I enter the match. Of course, it is my job to prove it.”

“It was very important for us to win this match. It was very difficult. We fought and they fought as well. It was truly an even battle, but we managed it until the end and secured the victory.”

Carrick: A Sharp and Ruthless Finish

Carrick praised the impact made by Sesko and expressed satisfaction with the contribution of fellow summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the build-up to the goal.

He said: “An incredible finish, it was a ruthless finish. I like the way he completed it with full confidence. Great play from Matheus and Bryan in building it up, we have players to execute counter-attacks. I am happy for Ben again, coming on and making the difference.”

The coach also highlighted the influence of Senne Lammens on the outcome of the match after the Belgian goalkeeper produced an excellent save to deny Michael Keane late in the game and reacted swiftly to deal with numerous Everton crosses into the penalty area.

“He made some very good saves, looked calm and composed in a difficult environment,” Carrick said. “There were many corners dropping under the crossbar, but he did not panic, made the right decisions and his hands were very clean. He was outstanding for us tonight.”

When Will Sesko Start?

Carrick stressed that he is satisfied with Sesko’s performances despite not fielding him as a starter, and stated that there is no issue if the player continues to play as a substitute.

He explained: “I understand why everyone talks about this and exaggerates it, but I have a very good relationship with Ben. We have had very good conversations and he is in a very positive mental condition.

“Part of our job is to help him take steps in his development as a player. Sometimes those are small steps, sometimes big steps. Recently he has taken big steps in terms of the goals he has scored, the impact he has made, and the confidence and belief he has shown, and that is pleasing to see.

“We have to manage him and we have a number of quality forwards, so this becomes one of the decisions we must get right. But I have no problem with Ben and he has no problem. He naturally wants to play, but he continues to show the same work ethic and attitude every time he comes on and does what he has done again. He finished the chance with such confidence and belief, a ruthless finish that reflects his current condition.”
