Chelsea Make Decision Regarding Liam Rosenior’s Future
Mansion Sports – Chelsea are reported to have made a firm decision regarding the future of head coach Liam Rosenior amid a worrying decline in performance.
Despite the team suffering four consecutive defeats and conceding 12 goals during that period, the 41-year-old coach continues to receive full support from the management at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Choose Long-Term Stability
Rosenior’s position as head coach is considered secure, even if Chelsea fail to secure qualification for the Champions League next season.
Reports indicate that the club’s management has no plans to conduct a formal evaluation of his performance before the summer of 2027.
In addition, there is no intention from the club to make a managerial change at the end of this season. The only condition that could alter this decision would be if the team’s performance deteriorates drastically in the remaining matches of the season, although such a scenario is not currently expected to occur.
The club’s management also understands that Rosenior only took over the coaching role in January, and therefore cannot be fully blamed for the results throughout this season. The main target remains finishing in the top four or five positions in the standings.
Evaluation of Tactical Mistakes During a Difficult Period
Although he has received full trust, internal sources at the club acknowledge that there have been several mistakes during this period of poor performance. One decision considered less appropriate was the change in the goalkeeper position.
Rosenior had benched Robert Sanchez in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain.
However, that decision led to problems after Filip Jorgensen made a fatal error and then suffered an injury, forcing Sanchez to be reinstated.
This situation created instability in a crucial position and affected Sanchez’s performance, as he appeared to make mistakes in the 3-0 defeat to Everton.
Nevertheless, the club believes that Rosenior is open to input and criticism, and is expected to learn from these mistakes as he gains more experience at the highest level.
Long-Term Project at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have a long-term plan with Rosenior, as reflected in the lengthy contract given to him until 2032 when he joined from affiliate club Strasbourg.
Internal sources at the club believe that a fair evaluation of Rosenior’s performance can only be made after he has managed the team in 65 to 70 matches, rather than being based solely on approximately 17 games since he replaced Enzo Maresca.
From a statistical perspective, the club sees signs of progress despite the recent unsatisfactory results. Chelsea have recorded 10 wins and 7 losses from 19 matches under his leadership.
The management also believes that the inconsistency in the team’s performance has been caused by the mid-season managerial change after Maresca left his position.
Focus on Player Recruitment in the Summer
Heading into the summer, Chelsea view the transfer period as an important moment to strengthen the squad.
The club aims to improve the team’s mental resilience while also providing more balanced player options for Rosenior.
Several positions have been identified as priorities, including center-back, midfielder, and forward to strengthen the core structure of the team. In addition, the first-choice goalkeeper position will also be subject to evaluation.
Goalkeeper Mike Penders is expected to return from his loan spell at Strasbourg and could compete for a place as the first-choice option in the upcoming season.
