Mansion Sports – Ruben Amorim admitted that Milan “did not deserve to win, or rather, Juventus did not deserve to lose” after a 1-1 draw in Turin. “We need to move more and be braver.”

The Rossoneri struggled to create genuinely dangerous scoring opportunities in Turin and first had Mike Maignan to thank, followed by the post, which denied Francisco Conceicao.

Substitute Alphadjo Cisse put them ahead somewhat against the run of play with a well-executed angled shot through Pierre Kalulu’s legs, but in stoppage time Federico Gatti headed Teun Koopmeiners’ cross into the net to score the equalizer.

The result meant that both Milan and Juventus lost their perfect records at the start of the Serie A season after dropping points in this head-to-head encounter.

Amorim Admits Milan Did Not Play Well

“We did not deserve to win, if we are being honest, or rather, Juventus did not deserve to lose,” Amorim told DAZN Italia.

“We tried to play our game, but we were not good in possession. We had some moments when we controlled the match in the first half, but we started losing the ball too often. We did not play well, but once again, we have only been working together for two months.”

“We need to do better, but we need time. It was a difficult match for us.”

Milan had not scored a Serie A goal against Juve since Olivier Giroud in May 2023, failing to find the net in their next six meetings until 19-year-old Cisse found a way through.

“We have individual quality, but the simple things are the most important, the way we receive and pass the ball, the fundamentals of football. Today, we were not good,” Amorim added.

“My feeling is that when my team does not have possession, we struggle. When Juve put many attackers forward, we defended well, but we suffered more when we lost the ball and they transitioned.

“We are not going to change the way we play, because we know that in some matches everything will go well, while in others it will not, but the important thing is that we fight to win. We could have won today, but once again, Juventus did not deserve to lose either.”

Diego Moreira made his debut and appeared to have little impact, while Adrien Rabiot was also less effective than when he came on as a substitute in the first two matches.

Milan Need to Move More and Be Braver

“We are changing the way we play, and we play well at certain moments.”

“My feeling is that in the first half we were not under much pressure. We sometimes lost the ball without pressure, we put the ball in danger, and that is something we need to learn from, to become more aggressive and defend with the ball. If we want to keep the ball, we need to move more and be braver.

“It is a big stadium, against a big team and a very good manager, so I do not want to be too negative about my players, but of course, we want more.”

Amorim Praises Cisse After Scoring Again

Amorim said in his first pre-season press conference that he “liked” Cisse, and the 19-year-old certainly showed why by scoring again.

“I am very happy with all the players and want to be careful with the young players, because now everyone makes them into very big stars very quickly.”

“He is still a young boy, he is just starting his career and needs to train well. Everyone is happy to see a young player perform very well. I look at Cisse and think he can still do much better,” Amorim added.

“Today was not a perfect day, but sometimes I want too much, and we were so close to winning this match.”
