FIFA has officially expanded its infrastructure footprint by opening two new mini-pitches through the FIFA Arena programme in the West Bank.

The two facilities are located in Marah Rabah and Qusin. Their presence is intended to provide Palestinian children with a safe and comfortable place to play football, while also creating spaces for sporting activities and community interaction.

Transforming Local Communities Through FIFA Arena

In an important step to strengthen grassroots football in the Middle East, FIFA has inaugurated two high-standard mini-pitches in Palestine.

The new facilities are located in Marah Rabah, south of Bethlehem, and Qusin, in the northern part of the West Bank. The project is the result of cooperation between the world football governing body and the Palestine Football Association, with important funding support from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The timing of the opening of these two facilities is also highly relevant, as many communities in the West Bank are currently facing various obstacles in accessing education, social services, and organized sports.

One of the facilities has been strategically located in the Thaher Al Thour area, directly opposite the Marah Rabah girls’ secondary school, while the other facility is located in northwestern Qusin.

Unite for Peace Kids Cup Opens a New Era

To celebrate the launch of the facilities, FIFA organized the “Unite for Peace: Kids’ Cup,” a youth tournament that has already begun transforming these pitches into hubs of activity.

The competition featured 14 Palestinian teams from the local area, bringing together around 160 children to compete while also developing their skills.

The tournament structure included a traditional group stage followed by a knockout phase, including the quarter-finals and semi-finals, before concluding with the final match.

In addition to competitive matches, the tournament also featured various community-focused football activities designed to involve residents from surrounding villages and towns in the spirit of sport.

The initiative is part of the broader “FIFA Unite for Peace” campaign, which uses the global popularity of football to teach important life values such as teamwork, mutual respect, and fair play.

The pitches are not merely ceremonial monuments but have been put into practical use immediately.

The tournament serves as a trial of how these facilities will be utilized throughout the year, ensuring that they are not left empty without activity.

The official inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 25, which will also be the venue for the presentation of trophies to the young participants who took part in the opening week of the competition.
