Injury Against Celta Vigo Raises Concerns Over Lamine Yamal’s Extended Absence
Mansion Sports – Barcelona may have secured a victory over Celta Vigo on Wednesday, but the result was overshadowed by injuries sustained by Joao Cancelo and Lamine Yamal.
Cancelo was not forced to continue after suffering a knock to his thigh, but it is the situation of the 18-year-old that has raised the greatest concern among club officials.
Lamine Yamal fell to the ground after scoring the only goal of the match from the penalty spot. He was seen holding his hamstring at the time, and it was decided that he could not continue the match. However, rather than being a minor issue, Barcelona fear that he could be sidelined for a considerable period.
Hamstring Injury Concerns
According to MD, initial examinations conducted by Barcelona’s medical team indicate that Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring tear.
If this proves to be accurate, he could be out for up to five weeks, which would mean missing the remainder of the 2025–26 club season.
From the perspective of the Spain national team, Lamine Yamal would still have a chance to participate in the World Cup this summer in North America if his absence is limited to five weeks.
He is expected to return in early June, giving him several weeks to regain full fitness before La Roja begin the tournament against Cape Verde.
Further Examination to Be Conducted
At this stage, it has not yet been officially confirmed whether Lamine Yamal’s injury is as serious as initially feared.
Barcelona remain hopeful that he could still feature before the end of the season, but further clarity will only be obtained after additional medical examinations are carried out on Thursday.
At that point, Barcelona will release an official medical report, which will determine how long Lamine Yamal will be sidelined. However, until then, pessimism continues to surround the club internally.
