Major Doubts Surround Rafael Leao’s Availability Ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana Semifinal
Mansion Sports – Optimism within the AC Milan camp regarding the potential appearance of Rafael Leao ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Napoli is considered very low. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday night at 19:00 GMT.
According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, the Portugal international did not take part in the final training session with the main squad.
Instead, Leao carried out individual training sessions separately. Under these circumstances, Leao is currently expected not to be included in the matchday squad and may only watch the game from the stands.
Leao’s Injury Condition Remains an Obstacle
Rafael Leao is known to have been dealing with a muscle issue since 8 December, although previous medical examinations confirmed that there was no structural injury.
Nevertheless, his recovery process has progressed more slowly than expected, making it impossible for him to return in time for the Supercoppa Italiana clash.
In the pre-match press conference held earlier today, head coach Massimiliano Allegri adopted a cautious stance.
He explained that the final decision regarding Leao’s involvement would be taken at the very last moments before the match.
Allegri stated that the club will still assess whether Leao can be available. He added that the player has not trained with the team over the past few days, and therefore his physical condition will be re-evaluated.
Additional Injury Problems Within the Milan Squad
Aside from Leao’s situation, Allegri also confirmed the presence of other injury concerns within the team.
Matteo Gabbia is certain to be sidelined after suffering a knock and is expected to be absent for the next few days.
AC Milan hope that Gabbia will be available again when the Rossoneri play their Serie A match scheduled for 28 January.
