Rafael Leao and Ardon Jashari Assert Milan Performed Better in Draw Against Como
Mansion Sports – Rafael Leao and Ardon Jashari believe that AC Milan delivered a better performance in the 1-1 draw against Como compared to their 3-1 victory in the previous meeting last month. Nevertheless, both emphasized that the race for the Scudetto remains wide open.
The two teams previously met at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on January 15, when the Rossoneri won 3-1 despite their goals coming largely against the run of play, as well as thanks to a brilliant performance from Mike Maignan in goal.
In this match, however, the French goalkeeper endured a contrasting evening. His fatal mistake provided an opportunity for Nico Paz to score the opening goal.
However, a brilliant through pass from Jashari was capitalized on by Leao with an accurate lob finish.
Milan Considered More Dominant Than in Previous Meeting
“It was a match that we should have won, because we played far better than when we defeated Como previously,” Leao told DAZN Italia.
He added that Milan controlled the course of the match more effectively, although he acknowledged that his team lacked efficiency in finishing during the first half.
After conceding, they continued to press and were considered to need to show greater determination in maximizing the final pass.
The draw leaves Milan seven points behind league leaders Inter Milan in Serie A, although they have extended their unbeaten run to 24 matches.
Optimism in the Scudetto Pursuit
When asked whether Milan can still dream of winning the Scudetto this season, Leao affirmed that the opportunity remains.
“There are still many matches to be played. Serie A has now become a very competitive league, you never know who will win or lose,” he stated.
He emphasized that the team can only focus on giving their best in every match. The primary objective is to win the next game and continue improving their position in the standings.
After scoring, Leao was seen running toward Maignan to embrace him, seemingly offering support after the mistake that led to Nico Paz’s goal.
“He is a very important figure for me. We played together at Lille OSC and he helps me every day. It was a difficult moment after that mistake, but we are an extraordinary group and have the energy to aim for high targets,” Leao concluded.
Jashari’s Important Contribution in Midfield
Jashari made his first appearance as a starter in midfield alongside Luka Modric, replacing Adrien Rabiot who was absent due to suspension. He also provided the crucial assist for Leao’s goal.
“I agree with Rafa, this was clearly a difficult match, but we performed better than in the first game in Como,” Jashari told DAZN Italia.
He explained that Milan were able to create threats when playing behind the opposition’s defensive line, which also became the pattern that led to their goal.
Despite disappointment at failing to secure victory, he emphasized that the team is now focused on the next match.
