Real Madrid Potentially Seeking New Coach in Summer, Klopp and Mourinho Become Candidates
Mansion Sports – Real Madrid may consider searching for a new coach next summer, given that Alvaro Arbeloa’s contract only runs until the end of the season.
Despite his record, particularly in La Liga, being regarded as good, there has not been sufficient evidence showing that he has significantly improved the team’s performance since taking over from Xabi Alonso, thus opening the possibility of a change.
Klopp and Mourinho Linked with the Real Madrid Coaching Position
Jurgen Klopp remains the leading candidate for Real Madrid if the club decides to seek a new coach, but in recent weeks speculation has emerged regarding a possible return of Jose Mourinho to the Santiago Bernabeu, with his Benfica side scheduled to face Los Blancos in the second leg of the Champions League play-off round on Wednesday.
However, Mourinho himself has denied those reports, and Diario AS now confirms that Real Madrid have never considered reappointing the Portuguese coach.
The club believes that he does not meet the standards required to take the team forward, an assessment considered reasonable when taking into account his coaching record in recent years.
Real Madrid’s Major Decision in the Summer
This summer will be an important period for Real Madrid, who must make major decisions regarding the coaching position as well as several first-team players.
It was previously expected that Alonso would lead a new era beginning this season, but his departure in January makes it highly likely that another new era will begin from the 2026–27 campaign onwards.
Coach Availability as the Determining Factor
Much will depend on which coaches are available to be recruited in the coming summer.
Klopp has not given any indication regarding his willingness to return to direct coaching on the touchline, but names such as Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann could potentially be available after the 2026 World Cup.
Neither has yet been discussed internally within the Real Madrid offices, but that situation could change in the coming months.
