Ruben Amorim’s Time at Manchester United May Be Running Out
Mansion Sports – The situation of Ruben Amorim as Manchester United manager is becoming increasingly precarious. Former Red Devils goalkeeper Ben Foster believes the Portuguese coach has only a few months left to prove himself.
Although Amorim secured a victory against Chelsea last week, the pressure on him remains intense, with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner already emerging as a potential replacement.
However, Foster has expressed doubts about whether Glasner’s style of play would suit Manchester United.
A Troubled Start to the Season for Manchester United
Manchester United have once again stumbled at the start of the campaign, following a disappointing season last year.
The Red Devils finished in 15th place—their lowest-ever position in the Premier League era—and also suffered defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
This season, their difficulties have continued. United were knocked out of the League Cup in humiliating fashion by fourth-tier Grimsby Town, while inconsistent league performances have intensified the scrutiny on Amorim.
Ben Foster’s View: Amorim Is on Borrowed Time
Foster, who spent five years at Manchester United, shared his perspective that Amorim is “living on borrowed time” at Old Trafford. Speaking on his podcast, Fozcast, Foster remarked:
“I think he has only a few more months left. There will come a stretch where he loses two, three, or four matches in a row, and eventually, they will say: ‘Enough is enough, this clearly isn’t working.’ When I watch them, I don’t see any cohesion in their play.”
Doubts Over Oliver Glasner as a Replacement
Although Glasner is among the leading candidates to replace Amorim, Foster questions whether his tactical approach would fit at United.
Glasner guided Crystal Palace to an FA Cup triumph last season and has lifted them to fifth place in the Premier League this term, despite losing five key players. However, his preference for a three-man defensive system could prove problematic.
“Manchester United have had enough of playing with three at the back. If Glasner comes in and says, ‘I want to play with three defenders,’ they are not going to accept it. That’s my concern,” Foster explained.
Other Names in the Frame
Beyond Glasner, several other managers are being linked with the role. Gareth Southgate, Marco Silva, and Mauricio Pochettino are all reportedly under consideration by the club’s hierarchy.
Meanwhile, United’s upcoming away fixture against Brentford this weekend could prove decisive in determining whether Amorim’s tenure as manager will be cut short.
