Sacked by AC Milan, Max Allegri Becomes Leading Candidate to Replace Conte at Napoli
Mansion Sports – Napoli have identified AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri as the leading candidate to fill the vacant position at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Partenopei are searching for a high-profile figure to lead a new era following the confirmed departure of Antonio Conte. Allegri’s dismissal by Milan on Monday indicates that major changes are underway.
Allegri Emerges as De Laurentiis’ Main Target
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan coach Allegri has emerged as a surprising frontrunner to become Napoli’s next manager.
The Tuscany-born coach is currently regarded as club president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ primary choice to fill the vacancy left by the previous coaching staff and guide the club into a new competitive cycle.
The situation at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona has moved quickly following Conte’s official departure. After two seasons that delivered the Scudetto, the Supercoppa Italiana, and a runner-up finish in the standings, the club confirmed that they would move in a different direction.
Now, Napoli’s leadership believes that Allegri has the track record required to maintain their status at the top of Italian football.
End of the Journey at AC Milan
Allegri’s potential move to Naples comes amid a period of significant uncertainty at San Siro that ended with his dismissal on Monday.
Despite his reputation, his second spell with the Rossoneri ended after just one season, following Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League after finishing the season in fifth place.
Although Allegri remains under contract with the Milan giants until 2027, the opportunity to begin a new chapter in southern Italy appears to be something difficult to refuse.
De Laurentiis has long admired Allegri’s pragmatic approach, and the timing now appears right for both parties to reach an agreement that would see one of Italy’s most successful managers change direction.
Reunion with Manna
One of the main factors driving this move is Giovanni Manna’s presence at Napoli. The sporting director has a relationship with Allegri after previously working together at Juventus.
This existing connection is viewed as an important component in Napoli’s recruitment strategy to ensure a smooth transition following Conte’s managerial tenure.
According to Calciomercato, Manna held a dinner meeting in Milan with Allegri. Partenopei are reported to have made direct contact with the Italian coach as part of their active efforts to fill the managerial vacancy that will be left by Conte.
Sarri Out of the Race for the Napoli Job
The managerial landscape in Italy is changing quickly, with Maurizio Sarri also preparing to begin a new chapter.
The former Lazio coach is reportedly on the verge of joining Atalanta, a move that further clears the path for Napoli to focus their attention entirely on Allegri.
With Sarri no longer an option for another top managerial role, the focus has now shifted completely to the Milan coach.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sarri will sign as Atalanta’s new manager, with a contract agreement already reached between both parties. The experienced coach will replace Raffaele Palladino.
