Although their opponents may not be as well-known as other top European teams, Pafos FC has proven that they are far from being mere participants.

Interestingly, all of Chelsea’s poor results in Europe this season have occurred in away matches. At home, they have defeated Barcelona, Ajax, and Benfica, and remain unbeaten in 17 UEFA group stage or league phase matches at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has also maintained a record of scoring in 21 consecutive European matches and secured a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory over West London rivals Brentford in the Premier League last weekend. That marked only their second win in the last eight matches across all competitions.

Regarding the Chelsea squad, the win against Brentford came at a cost, with central defender Tosin Adarabioyo being substituted before the hour mark due to a hamstring issue, sidelining him for several weeks.

Mykhaylo Mudryk is also absent due to a doping suspension, while Romeo Lavia has a thigh injury, and Levi Colwill is dealing with a knee problem.

Enzo Fernandez is doubtful due to illness, but Malo Gusto, Estevao Willian, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are available again.

However, consistency remains an issue for the visitors. They suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos Nicosia in domestic league action last weekend, leaving them five points behind Cypriot league leaders Omonoia Nicosia, although they still have one match in hand.

That last away loss also reflects Pafos’ struggles in European away matches, where they have yet to score in the Champions League outside their home stadium. They are clear underdogs in this first-ever encounter against an English club.

Regarding the Pafos squad, they may be without experienced David Luiz, who almost missed reuniting with his former club after being injured just 12 minutes into last weekend’s defeat.

His replacement, David Goldar, also had to be withdrawn due to physical issues, as did striker Joao Correira, adding three more injury concerns for Celades ahead of the visit to the Club World Cup champions’ stadium.
