Andy Robertson Delivers Emotional Farewell to Liverpool Supporters
Mansion Sports – Andy Robertson delivered an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters on the final day of the season, while also paying tribute to football figures who will be leaving their clubs, Pep Guardiola and Seamus Coleman, on a memorable night at Anfield.
The Scotland international left Liverpool after nine years and 377 appearances following the expiration of his contract, bringing a highly successful journey with the club to a close.
The 31-year-old featured in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Brentford on Sunday, a match that formed part of the Premier League final-day celebrations, but also became a personal farewell moment for the long-serving left-back.
Andy Robertson Reflects on Pep Guardiola’s Dominance
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Robertson highlighted two major figures who are also leaving their clubs, with special praise directed toward Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
“For me, there are two other people leaving clubs today who are very important,” said Robertson.
“Pep Guardiola pushed us to a completely new level, I think we would both agree on that. He pushed us to a completely new level and we should have won more Premier League titles if it was not for that figure. Incredible dedication to Manchester City and I wish him all the best.”
Robertson’s comments underlined the fierce yet respectful rivalry between Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City during one of the most competitive eras in Premier League history.
During Guardiola’s time in charge, Liverpool came very close to the Premier League title twice.
In the 2018–19 season, they collected 97 points but still finished in second place, one point behind Manchester City.
Three years later in the 2021–22 season, Liverpool again pushed Manchester City until the final day of the season before ultimately missing out on the title once more by a narrow margin.
Seamus Coleman Also Receives Tribute
Robertson also paid tribute to Everton captain Seamus Coleman, who also brought his journey in top-flight football to an end after a long and highly respected career.
The Everton defender has been one of the most loyal figures in the Premier League, and Robertson acknowledged his contribution on the same emotional evening, which marked several farewells in English football.
9 Trophies from 9 Years at Anfield
Robertson leaves Anfield, alongside Mohamed Salah, as one of Liverpool’s most successful players of the modern era, having won nine major trophies including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Although his legacy is firmly established at Liverpool, the era defined by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City often stood in the way of Jürgen Klopp and his team achieving even greater success.
Even so, Robertson leaves the club as a key figure in one of the most competitive and most memorable periods in Premier League history.
