Former Teammate Assesses Cristiano Ronaldo’s Chances of Returning to Man Utd
Mansion Sports – A former teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo has shared his views regarding the possibility of the Portuguese legend embarking on a third spell with Manchester United.
The 40-year-old is reportedly dissatisfied with his situation at Al-Nassr, as he believes that the club’s owners, the Public Investment Fund, prioritize three other clubs over his team.
Ronaldo is said to be considering seeking a new club in the coming months, in line with his ambition to reach 1,000 career goals before retiring.
Ronaldo Unhappy at Al-Nassr Following Karim Benzema Transfer
Ronaldo became the highest-profile player to join the Saudi Pro League in 2023, after signing for Al-Nassr shortly after his contract with Manchester United was terminated.
Since then, the Portugal international forward has continued to demonstrate his goal-scoring prowess in the Middle East.
However, the only trophy Ronaldo has won with Al-Nassr to date is the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.
This season, Al-Nassr remain in the Saudi Pro League title race, trailing league leaders Al-Hilal by just one point after 19 matches.
Despite the team’s competitive position, Ronaldo is reportedly disappointed after the Public Investment Fund facilitated Karim Benzema’s move from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal.
According to Ronaldo, that decision strengthened a direct rival in the title race, while he believes that he and Al-Nassr should have received similar backing.
Cristiano Ronaldo Remains a Manchester United Legend
Speculation surrounding Ronaldo’s future has continued to grow, including the possibility of a third return to Manchester United.
During his first spell at Old Trafford, Ronaldo developed into a world-class star, winning numerous trophies such as the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as claiming his first Ballon d'Or.
He then continued his career at Real Madrid, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 450 goals from 438 appearances.
After that, Ronaldo spent three seasons with Juventus in Italy before eventually returning to Manchester United in 2021.
That return was orchestrated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was targeting a title challenge with his squad.
Ronaldo repaid that trust by scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
However, after Solskjaer was dismissed and replaced by Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo’s relationship with the club deteriorated, ultimately leading to his departure to Al-Nassr.
Now, his former teammate Wes Brown has offered his perspective on the possibility of Ronaldo returning to Manchester United.
Brown: Difficult to Imagine Ronaldo Returning to Manchester United
In an interview with BettingLounge, Wes Brown stated that although Ronaldo is currently unhappy, the likelihood of him returning to Manchester United for a third time is very small. According to him, he does not see how such a scenario could materialize.
Brown mentioned that other options, such as a move to Major League Soccer or a return to playing in Portugal, could be possible alternatives. He also emphasized that Ronaldo still has many club options available.
Brown added that Ronaldo’s main objective is to continue playing until the next World Cup, meaning that he must maintain his fitness levels and regular playing time.
He acknowledged that the strike situation involving Ronaldo has surprised many people, but he believes that the issue will eventually be resolved.
Clubs Reportedly Lining Up to Sign Ronaldo
Whoever is appointed as Manchester United’s permanent manager next summer, it is unlikely that Ronaldo will be made a primary transfer target.
Nevertheless, there remain several options for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to continue his club career.
Several clubs in Major League Soccer and Europe are reportedly monitoring developments surrounding Ronaldo’s situation.
In his contract with Al-Nassr, there is a release clause valued at 50 million euros, which would allow another club to sign him if they are willing to pay that amount.
Meanwhile, regarding matters on the pitch, it is not yet certain when Ronaldo will end his strike action. Al-Nassr are scheduled to play their next match against Al-Ittihad on Friday night.
