Mansion Sports – Samuele Ricci shared his reflections on his growth at AC Milan and his recent return to the Italian national team, while also expressing admiration for his club coach, Massimiliano Allegri, and Italy head coach, Gennaro Gattuso.

Ricci Admits Moving from Torino to Milan Was a Challenge

In an interview with Rai Sport, as reported by MilanNews.it, the midfielder acknowledged that his transition from Torino to Milan represented a major challenge.

“It has been a period of growth,” he said. “I came from a club where I played regularly to one with much higher competition.

However, in recent matches, I have begun to find consistency and playing time, which has allowed me to return to the national team.”

The Italian midfielder joined the Rossoneri during the summer for a transfer fee of around €25 million.

After a slow start adapting to life in Lombardy, Ricci has become increasingly relied upon, particularly following an injury to fellow summer signing Adrien Rabiot.

As his performances continue to improve, Ricci has earned another call-up to the Italian national squad.

He expressed appreciation for Azzurri head coach Gennaro Gattuso, commending his attitude and approach toward Italian players.

Ricci also described his strong relationship with Gattuso: “Even when I wasn’t called up, he still reached out to me.

That’s not something to take for granted — it shows how much he values every player, even those not included in the squad.”

The Milan midfielder further reflected on working under Massimiliano Allegri. “We understand each other well and even share the same sense of humor,” he said. “He is building something significant. The team has faced difficult moments, but you can see his influence.”

Ricci reserved special praise for Luka Modric, calling him “the strongest player I have ever played with,” highlighting the 40-year-old veteran’s humility and intensity.

He also spoke admiringly of Rafael Leao: “Rafa doesn’t even realize how good he is. Now he’s giving everything for the team — 100% focused on Milan and performing at his best.”
