Benjamin Sesko Suffers Injury as Amorim Identifies His Replacement
Mansion Sports – Ruben Amorim is reported to have already identified an ideal internal replacement for Benjamin Sesko, who has been sidelined due to injury within the Manchester United squad.
The Red Devils initially faced significant anxiety after the striker limped off during the closing stages of a dramatic 2–2 draw against Tottenham, raising fears of a serious knee injury to their major summer signing. Sesko is now expected to be unavailable for approximately one month.
Early Panic Transforms Into Measured Optimism
Sesko had only recently entered the match in the second half before collapsing after a heavy collision and immediately requesting medical assistance.
With all substitutions used, United were forced to finish the game with ten men. After the match, Amorim did little to calm concerns, admitting he was deeply worried due to the injury affecting the knee, an area notoriously difficult to assess in terms of severity.
Withdrawn from Slovenia’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden, Sesko returned to Carrington for comprehensive medical examinations.
Club doctors conducted multiple scans to determine the extent of the damage, and the results brought collective relief as no major ligament injury was detected.
He has remained in Manchester to begin a structured rehabilitation programme while awaiting the formulation of a long-term recovery schedule.
According to Sky Sports, Sesko is expected to miss “up to one month,” a positive outcome considering initial fears that his season could be prematurely cut short.
Zirkzee Becomes the Only Senior Striker Available
Sesko’s temporary absence leaves United with limited attacking options. Joshua Zirkzee is now the only natural centre-forward available to Amorim, potentially prompting tactical adjustments or emergency alternatives.
Despite this, not everyone believes United should panic or look to the transfer market for a short-term fix. Former United striker Dwight Yorke has insisted that the solution already exists within the squad.
In an interview with Snabbare, Yorke encouraged Amorim to maximise the potential of young talent rather than pursue short-term loan signings.
He emphasised that United have a history of bringing in stop-gap forwards who ultimately failed to meet expectations, a pattern he believes should not be repeated.
Is Obi the Solution to Amorim’s Challenges?
Yorke highlighted one name in particular: 18-year-old Chido Obi. The Nigerian-born forward joined from Arsenal in 2024 and made seven Premier League appearances last season before returning to the U-23 squad for the current campaign.
Yorke stressed that the senior team should provide pathways for emerging players so that when situations like this arise, they are ready to step in.
He noted that United’s history shows that young players have often been given the chance to perform and develop, and that tradition remains important.
When Can Sesko Return to Action?
United will resume their Premier League campaign on 24 November against Everton, a fixture Sesko will miss as his rehabilitation continues.
Should his recovery progress smoothly, the Slovenian striker could make his return during the trip to Aston Villa on 21 December or in the Boxing Day clash against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
