Contract Deal Collapses, Vlahovic Officially Leaves Juventus on a Free Transfer
Mansion Sports – The long-running contract saga between Dusan Vlahovic and Juventus has finally reached a definitive conclusion with confirmation that the striker will leave the club as a free agent.
Despite months of negotiations to secure his future in Turin, reconciliation between the two parties proved impossible as talks officially ended this week.
Irreconcilable Differences Over Salary Demands
After four and a half years at Allianz Stadium, the paths of Vlahovic and Juventus will soon separate. The club and the central striker failed to reach an agreement on an extension of his current contract, which expires on June 30.
The final round of discussions revealed an unbridgeable gap between the demands of the Serbia international and the financial package offered by the Bianconeri leadership.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vlahovic remained firm in his demand for a salary of €8 million per season to extend his contract, in addition to a significant signing bonus and agent commission.
Juventus Chief Executive Officer Comolli remained committed to an offer of €6 million plus performance-based bonuses and refused to meet the player's side regarding the requested "additional costs." With neither party willing to compromise, negotiations were permanently terminated, paving the way for the player's major departure.
According to reports, Chelsea, Newcastle, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich have made contact with his representatives, although it remains unclear where the striker will continue his career.
Spalletti Disappointed by Transfer Market Failure
The collapse of the talks represents a major blow for coach Luciano Spalletti, who has openly expressed his admiration for the striker.
Spalletti, who reportedly also saw attempts to sign Bernardo Silva and Alisson fail, viewed Vlahovic as a cornerstone of his project.
Following the victory against Lecce less than a month ago, the coach emphasized the importance of the striker's role within his system.
"The absence of Vlahovic is something we feel as a daily necessity," said Spalletti.
"You cannot play football without someone with his characteristics, without a physically strong figure, a primary target, and someone capable of scoring goals."
"Contract extension? The club, as far as I know, has tried to establish and maintain that kind of contact and will try again because that is what they told me and I trust my directors."
Despite the manager's public support, financial realities have produced a different outcome for the club's sporting plans.
A Legacy Marked by Inconsistency in Turin
Vlahovic arrived in Turin in January 2022 from Fiorentina for a transfer fee of €70 million plus €10 million in bonuses and was presented as the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, his time at the club was marked by inconsistency. Although he occasionally displayed flashes of extraordinary quality, critics frequently highlighted the lack of the "killer instinct" required at an elite European club. The drama surrounding his contract extension lasted more than 18 months and extended across multiple changes in club directors.
Initially, former director Cristiano Giuntoli appeared prepared to sell the striker in 2025 to avoid losing him without compensation.
However, under the leadership of Comolli and following the arrival of Spalletti, a contract extension once again became a priority, particularly after Vlahovic rediscovered his form by scoring four goals in his final four league matches.
Ultimately, the long-term injury he suffered in November and the lack of major offers from Europe's elite clubs prevented an earlier sale from taking place, eventually leading to the current deadlock.
Rebuilding the Juventus Attack
Vlahovic's departure leaves a major void in the Juventus attack, forcing the club to search for two new strikers during the upcoming transfer window.
The situation has become even more complicated because the technical staff have shifted their focus away from other targets.
Reports indicate that Loïs Openda and Jonathan David have been removed as options by Spalletti, leaving the recruitment team with the difficult task of replacing their leading striker.
From a financial perspective, allowing Vlahovic to reach the end of his contract will free more than €40 million on the club's balance sheet, providing greater flexibility for future investments.
