Mansion Sports – Inter Milan secured a crucial victory over Lazio at the Giuseppe Meazza in the continuation of the 2025/2026 Serie A campaign. The Nerazzurri triumphed 2-0 in a fiercely contested and high-intensity encounter.

Hosting Lazio on matchday 11 of the Italian league, Inter faced a challenging start but ultimately displayed superior composure and efficiency. 

Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Ange-Yoan Bonny sealed the win for the home side, while an additional goal was disallowed following a VAR review.

With this result, Inter now lead the Serie A standings with 24 points from 11 matches, overtaking AS Roma at the top. Lazio, meanwhile, remain in ninth place with 15 points from the same number of games.

First Half: Early Strike from Lautaro Martinez Highlights Inter’s Dominance

Lazio began the match at San Siro with confidence, but Inter immediately took control of the game. 

It took only two minutes for the hosts to break the deadlock through Lautaro Martinez’s brilliant finish. 

After Alessandro Bastoni intercepted a loose ball in a dangerous area, he delivered a precise pass to the Inter captain, who fired a powerful strike into the top corner, leaving Ivan Provedel with no chance.

Following the opener, Inter continued to apply relentless pressure. Martinez nearly doubled the lead in the eighth minute after connecting with a well-placed free kick from Federico Dimarco, but his header narrowly missed the target. 

Inter’s high press and dominance in possession forced Lazio to struggle in building up play from the back.

Lazio finally responded in the 18th minute when Mattia Zaccagni cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a curling shot that drifted just over Yann Sommer’s crossbar, signaling the visitors’ potential threat.

Inter quickly countered with a rapid transition. Nicolo Barella made a penetrating run and slipped an accurate through ball to Luka Sucic, who was unmarked inside the penalty area. 

However, the midfielder’s first-time volley went wide of the post, squandering a golden chance to extend the lead.

As halftime approached, the tempo of the match slowed, with both sides opting for a more cautious approach. The first half ended with Inter maintaining a 1-0 advantage.

Second Half: Bonny Seals Victory for the Nerazzurri

Lazio entered the second half with a more aggressive approach, pressing higher and creating danger early on. 

Matteo Guendouzi came close to equalizing in the 53rd minute with a low strike aimed at the bottom corner, but Sommer’s quick reflexes denied the effort and kept Inter ahead.

Inter gradually regained control of the tempo. The intelligent interplay between Barella and Martinez repeatedly troubled Lazio’s defensive line. 

Barella set up Martinez for another chance, but the captain’s shot flew over the bar. Despite the missed opportunities, Inter’s sustained pressure hinted that another goal was imminent.

That goal arrived in the 61st minute. Barella produced a superb outside-foot pass to Martinez, who quickly released Dimarco on the left flank. 

The wing-back delivered a precise low cross into the box, which Ange-Yoan Bonny calmly slotted home from close range, doubling Inter’s advantage with clinical precision.

Inter appeared to score a third through Piotr Zielinski in the 67th minute, but VAR intervened to rule the goal out after determining that the ball had struck Dimarco’s arm during the buildup.

Despite the disallowed goal, Inter remained composed and continued to dictate the flow of play until the final whistle.

Lazio attempted to mount a late comeback. Giulio Gila struck the crossbar with a header, and Luca Pellegrini forced Sommer into a fine save in the 87th minute. 

However, no further goals were scored, and Inter secured a commanding 2-0 victory that sent them to the top of the Serie A table.
