Mansion Sports – Vincent Kompany wasted no time in expressing his major ambition with Bayern Munich by confirming that the club are targeting a historic treble this season.

However, the Belgian coach quickly tempered expectations by warning that matching the achievements of previous seasons would be a major challenge for his squad.

Targeting the UEFA Champions League Summit

Kompany has made it clear that Bayern Munich's primary objective for the upcoming season is to win the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Speaking ahead of his team's pre-season friendly against Aston Villa in Hong Kong on Friday, the former Manchester City captain did not shy away from the pressure that comes with managing the German giants. Nevertheless, he emphasized that his team must remain grounded throughout the course of the season.

"At the moment I say: Our goal is to win the Champions League, there is no doubt about that. And as the season progresses I will say that we must focus on the next match," Kompany explained.

Since taking charge of Bayern in the summer of 2024, the Belgian coach guided the team to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in his debut season before being eliminated by Inter Milan.

After that, Bayern suffered another disappointment in the semi-finals last season after losing to Paris Saint-Germain, who eventually became champions.

The Challenge of Raising Performance

Despite his strong ambition to win more trophies, Kompany warned that raising the standards of a club as large as Bayern Munich is an extremely difficult task.

He believes that success is not measured solely by the number of trophies won, but also by the high statistical standards the team have established in terms of goals scored and consistency in winning matches.

The Bayern head coach believes that reaching an even higher level is still possible, but it requires almost perfect execution throughout the season.

"Becoming better is difficult. It is not only about the trophies we have won, but also about the number of goals and matches we have won. It is possible, but it is difficult," Kompany added.

His domestic record with Bayern reflects those high standards. He successfully guided the club to two consecutive Bundesliga titles over the past two seasons, in addition to winning the DFB-Pokal and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup last season.

Squad Depth and Fitness Concerns

To achieve the ambition of winning the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and European glory, Kompany emphasized the importance of having a deep squad that remains fully fit and healthy.

Bayern have been active in the transfer market by spending around €100 million to sign Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, adding further quality to a squad that already includes players such as Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz.

"To win the Bundesliga, the cup, and the Champions League, we need the entire squad to be fit and healthy. We must use them well and continue to improve. We have already done that, but hopefully it will help us achieve our goals," Kompany said.

A Demanding Start to the Season

Bayern Munich are scheduled to conclude their eight-day summer tour of Asia on Saturday before returning to Europe to complete the final stage of their pre-season preparations.

The first major test for Kompany's side will take place on 22 August when they face rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

That prestigious opening fixture will serve as an important benchmark for the team's readiness before the domestic competition begins.

The defending champions will officially begin their Bundesliga title defence on 28 August against VfB Stuttgart.

With the pressure continuing to increase, Kompany's side must quickly find their best form if they are to turn their coach's vision of complete dominance into reality.
