Mansion Sports - Juventus made a strong push to bring Randal Kolo Muani back from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) following his successful loan spell in Serie A during the second half of the 2025–26 season.

However, their hopes were dashed as the French striker ultimately sealed a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

Why Juventus Abandoned the Pursuit of Kolo Muani

Kolo Muani impressed during his stint with Juventus, netting eight goals in 16 Serie A matches. His loan was even extended so that he could represent the Bianconeri at the FIFA Club World Cup. Despite that, the deal never included a permanent purchase option.

PSG, who had invested €90 million to sign Kolo Muani two years earlier, set a firm asking price of around €60 million for a permanent sale. Any loan proposals with a purchase option were also met with the same release clause.

Complicating matters further was the striker’s salary, which stood at €8 million per season. While technically manageable, Juventus found it difficult to balance financially, particularly with Dusan Vlahović still on the books earning €12 million annually.

Ultimately, Juventus management concluded that it would be wiser to allocate those funds toward acquiring multiple reinforcements rather than committing to one high-profile signing.

Juventus’ Alternative Transfer Strategy

After withdrawing from negotiations for Kolo Muani, Juventus quickly shifted their focus in the transfer market. 

They secured Lois Openda from RB Leipzig on loan, with an option to buy valued at €40.6 million plus bonuses. 

Additionally, they completed the signing of Edon Zhegrova for €15 million plus €3 million in add-ons.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the combined salaries of Openda and Zhegrova were equivalent to what Kolo Muani alone would have earned, making the move financially more advantageous for the Turin club.

Tottenham Hotspur Emerge Victorious

With Juventus stepping aside, the door opened for other clubs, and Tottenham Hotspur seized the opportunity. 

Spurs met PSG’s demands as well as the player’s personal terms, finalizing the transfer on the deadline day of the summer window.

The move confirmed Tottenham as the winners in the race for Kolo Muani’s signature, bringing the French striker to North London as part of their long-term attacking plans.
