Verona vs Inter Milan: Last-Minute Drama Seals Victory for Inter
Mansion Sports – Inter Milan secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona in Week 10 of the 2025/2026 Serie A season.
The tightly contested match at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi was decided in dramatic fashion, with Inter clinching all three points through a stoppage-time goal.
Zielinski’s Spectacular Strike Highlights the First Half
Inter Milan immediately took the initiative from the opening whistle and broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through a brilliant strike from Piotr Zielinski.
The goal originated from a well-executed corner kick by Hakan Calhanoglu, which was directed toward Zielinski, positioned just outside the penalty area.
The Polish midfielder struck the ball with a precise side-footed volley that rocketed into the top left corner of the Verona goal, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The goal showcased Inter’s sharpness in exploiting set-piece situations.
However, Inter’s advantage did not last until halftime. A lapse in concentration in the closing moments of the first half proved costly for Cristian Chivu’s side.
Verona capitalized on the opportunity, equalizing through Giovane Nascimento, who latched onto a perfectly timed pass from Orban before firing a powerful shot into the far corner.
Verona nearly turned the game around in stoppage time when Orban’s strike rattled the post, narrowly missing the target.
The first half ended with the score level at 1-1, maintaining an intense atmosphere at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium.
Late Winner Decides a Tense Second Half
At the start of the second half, Hellas Verona displayed renewed confidence and attempted to dictate the tempo to neutralize Inter’s pressure.
In response, Cristian Chivu made three substitutions in the 55th minute, bringing on Nicolo Barella, Pio Esposito, and Denzel Dumfries to inject energy into the midfield and flanks.
Despite maintaining control of possession, Inter struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their best opportunity came in the 72nd minute when Pio Esposito found space inside the box but sent his shot soaring over the crossbar.
Verona, on the other hand, began to lose rhythm and intensity. By the 80th minute, they had yet to produce a single shot on target, while Inter had created six attempts without managing to find the finishing touch.
The breakthrough finally arrived deep into stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, a defensive misjudgment by Martin Frese allowed the ball to fall kindly to an Inter player, who calmly slotted it home to seal the 2-1 victory.
The dramatic win lifted Inter Milan to third place in the Serie A standings with 21 points, level with AS Roma and just one point behind Napoli in second. Hellas Verona, meanwhile, remained in the relegation zone, sitting 18th with only five points.
