Fabian Ruiz Expresses Desire to Return to LaLiga at the End of His Career
Mansion Sports – Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz has reiterated his intention to return to Real Betis before concluding his professional journey.
The Ballon d’Or nominee, who was one of the standout performers last season, is currently competing for a place in Spain’s midfield ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
La Roja will debut their World Cup kit at La Cartuja when they face TĂĽrkiye on Tuesday evening, despite missing several key players. They only need to avoid a nine-goal defeat to confirm their qualification for the tournament hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Despite the absence of several starters, Spain delivered a convincing 4–0 victory away to Türkiye on Saturday. The intense competition within the squad has been a motivating factor for Fabian.
Fierce Competition in Spain’s Midfield
“That makes us more competitive and pushes us to always be at our best so we can come here and enjoy playing for the national team. It seems that whoever takes the field performs well, and that shows the high standard of Spain and Spanish players. We are one of the best national teams, and we hope to continue proving it on the pitch,” Fabian told Cadena SER.
He currently faces strong competition in the central area. With Pedri sidelined since the quarter-finals, the trio of Dani Olmo, Fabian, and Rodri Hernández led La Roja to the final of Euro 2024.
However, the recent form of Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, and a fully recovered Pedri has intensified the battle for starting spots.
“Playing in the World Cup is a dream I am fighting for, because I could not participate in the previous edition, and I hope to achieve it in 2026. Moreover, it is always special to play at home (in Seville), with my family and supporters,” Fabian added regarding his ambitions for the tournament.
Fabian’s Aspiration to Return to Real Betis
The PSG midfielder also played a significant role under Luis Enrique during their Champions League-winning campaign last season.
After departing Betis to join Napoli in 2018, he has now reaffirmed his aspiration to eventually return to Benito VillamarĂn.
“I am a Betis fan and I have always said that I want to end my career at Betis, although I don’t know when. I am pleased with all the positive things happening for them; they have had several very good seasons with quality players, and that is also thanks to (Manuel) Pellegrini. It is not my decision to make, but I hope he stays because he is an excellent coach.”
