Failed to Qualify for the UCL, Allegri and All AC Milan Directors Officially Dismissed
Mansion Sports – AC Milan took a drastic step by dismissing head coach Massimiliano Allegri following the close of a Serie A season that ended poorly.
The Rossoneri hierarchy moved quickly on Monday after the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League was confirmed in the final match of the season.
It had previously also been reported that he was expected to replace Antonio Conte as Napoli manager.
Major Overhaul at Milan
In a decisive move that shocked Italian football, AC Milan owner RedBird Capital began a large-scale cleanout of the club’s leadership ranks.
Alongside Allegri’s dismissal, the club confirmed that chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada had all been relieved of their positions.
The decision followed a dramatic final day of Serie A, when a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari left the Rossoneri in fifth place, meaning they will play in the Europa League next season.
This marks a significant setback for the club, which has now failed to reach Europe’s premier competition in two consecutive seasons after previously enjoying four successful years of consistently qualifying.
Ownership Describes This Season as an Undeniable Failure
The club’s ownership did not hold back in their assessment of a season that promised much but ultimately delivered nothing.
Despite being in the top two for most of the season, the late-season collapse proved fatal for Allegri and his colleagues in the leadership ranks.
The disappointment was strongly reflected in the official statement released by the club to explain the decision after the Rossoneri failed to secure a place in Europe’s premier competition and had to settle for a place in the Europa League.
“After the disappointment of last season, the mandate set by the ownership for the club was to return to the Champions League and build the foundation to achieve consistent success at the top of Serie A,” the club statement read.
“For most of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a genuine opportunity to compete for the Scudetto. The final period of the season was completely inconsistent with our performances up to that point, with last night’s disappointing defeat in the final match turning this season into an undeniable failure.”
Final Blow for Allegri’s Second Spell
Allegri’s second spell at San Siro was intended to restore the club to its former glory, recalling his success during his first tenure between 2010 and 2014 when he won the Scudetto.
However, the 58-year-old from Livorno was unable to repeat that success, and lasted only one season in his return to the Milan bench.
The final blow came when Milan were overtaken in the race for the top four by Como, whose emphatic 4-1 victory over Cremonese allowed them to leap above the Rossoneri in the standings.
For a coach with five Scudetto titles and five Coppa Italia trophies from his legendary period with Juventus, this became a rare and deeply disappointing blemish on an accomplished managerial career.
Uncertainty Surrounds Milan in Search of a New Direction
With the entire sporting department now vacant, Milan face a summer filled with major changes.
The departures of Furlani, Tare, and Moncada alongside Allegri indicate that RedBird Capital wants a complete transformation in the club’s culture to bridge the gap between their great ambitions and the team’s performances on the pitch.
The club concluded its statement by saying: “Further announcements regarding new appointments will be communicated as soon as everything is finalized, with the aim of having a structure ready before next season begins.”
