Joan Laporta Officially Re-elected as President of Barcelona
Mansion Sports – Barcelona officially announced the results of their latest presidential election, confirming that Joan Laporta has once again received the mandate to lead the club.
The 63-year-old participated in the re-election after his third leadership period, which ran from 2021 to 2026. With this result, Laporta will continue his leadership at the club until 2031.
Shortly after 23:00 Central European Time, Barcelona confirmed the results of the vote that was held on Sunday.
The election took place alongside Barcelona’s convincing victory over Sevilla at the Spotify Camp Nou Stadium.
Laporta emerged as the winner with approximately 68 percent of the vote, while his rival, Victor Font, trailed significantly with less than 30 percent of the vote.
Font Delivers Statement After Conceding Defeat
Victor Font delivered a statement to the media after acknowledging his defeat to Laporta. He accepted the election result with a relatively open attitude and extended congratulations to his rival for his success in the election campaign.
“We feel disappointed. We had hopes of transforming the club and bringing it closer to its supporters. This is unfortunate, but we accept this result because it is the reality.”
“We congratulate the elected president, Joan Laporta, as well as his entire board of directors. We have fought for a different vision of Barcelona. We will continue to fight for that idea because it is a noble objective and is connected to the identity of the country.”
“I will continue to work, fight, and strive so that Barcelona, the club of my life, can become what I have always dreamed of.”
Laporta’s Victory Removes Doubts Regarding the Future of Hansi Flick
The confirmation that Laporta has been re-elected as president has become positive news for Barcelona supporters who had previously been concerned about the future of head coach Hansi Flick.
The German coach had previously led the players to the polling station after the emphatic 5–2 victory over Sevilla.
Reports had briefly emerged suggesting that Flick was considering the possibility of leaving the club if Victor Font had won the election.
However, with Laporta’s victory now confirmed, there is a strong possibility that Flick will remain at Barcelona at least until his contract expires.
