PSG Move to Sign a New Defender as Hakimi's Backup
Mansion Sports – Paris Saint-Germain are looking to strengthen their defensive line by signing a standout new player, regardless of the major attacking project currently being developed by the club.
France national team left-back Lucas Digne is on his way to joining the club and will serve as a suitable alternative to Portugal left-back Nuno Mendes.
However, Digne will not be the final defensive signing this summer. Reports indicate that the Paris-based club plan to recruit one more defender after sporting director Luis Campos compiled a list of transfer targets.
PSG Search for a Versatile Defender
According to L'Équipe, PSG are searching for a player capable of playing as a center-back while also being able to fill the right-back position when needed, allowing Achraf Hakimi and Warren Zaïre-Emery to receive valuable rest during the long season.
Luis Enrique Relies on Young Talents
Head coach Luis Enrique will also rely on several young talents during preseason.
One of the most notable is David Boly, who originally developed as a center-back but has frequently been deployed as a full-back with the U-19 team and the reserve squad.
Another name is Dimitri Loussa, a defender who is comfortable playing as a center-back but featured as a left-back against Paris FC on May 17.
PSG Build a More Balanced Defense
The message the club intend to send is very clear. Paris Saint-Germain are not solely focused on strengthening their attacking line, but are also building a deeper and more balanced defensive system in order to compete for every trophy next season.
