Robert Lewandowski Considering Retirement Next Summer

Robert Lewandowski Considering Retirement Next Summer

Mansion Sports – Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has admitted that retirement could be an option for him next summer amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future.

The Polish forward recently revealed that he has not yet thought about next season, but will make a decision depending on how he feels by the end of the current campaign.

Contract Situation and Barcelona’s Stance

In recent weeks, multiple reports from Catalan media have consistently suggested that Barcelona have no plans to offer Lewandowski a contract extension once his current deal expires at the end of this season.

The 37-year-old striker reminded everyone of his enduring quality with a hat-trick in the 4–2 victory over Celta Vigo, but the club appears to be shifting its focus toward building for the future.

Lewandowski’s Desire to Remain at Barcelona

According to Sport, Lewandowski believes he still has more to contribute to Barcelona and feels capable of being useful for at least one more season.

Despite having to compete for a starting place this term, the veteran forward is reportedly open to accepting reduced playing time and taking on a secondary role next season should the club decide to recruit a younger, more competitive striker.

While many players at his age choose to extend their careers in Major League Soccer (MLS) or the Saudi Pro League — where the physical demands are lower and salaries significantly higher — Lewandowski is said to have little interest in moving to the Middle East despite multiple approaches in the past.

His family has settled comfortably in Barcelona, having built a home in the Castelldefels area, not far from the city center.

For this reason, Lewandowski is reluctant to uproot his family unless a truly serious and beneficial offer arises.

Retirement Becomes a Real Possibility

If Barcelona ultimately decide not to renew his contract, Lewandowski may, for the first time in his career, seriously consider retirement.

The idea of joining another European club would only appeal to him if it allows him to continue competing at the highest level without relocating his family from Spain.

Therefore, retirement could become a realistic outcome, although reports have also mentioned interest from Atletico Madrid — a potential destination that aligns with Lewandowski’s preference to remain in Europe and continue playing top-level football.
