Fabrizio Romano Confirms Endrick’s Departure from Real Madrid
Mansion Sports – Real Madrid forward Endrick Felipe will seek his fortune elsewhere in the second half of the season after receiving limited playing opportunities under the guidance of Xabi Alonso.
The young Brazilian striker was already rarely involved last season when Real Madrid were still coached by Carlo Ancelotti, but his role has diminished even further this season under Alonso.
After being sidelined for four months due to an injury that covered the end of last season, the Club World Cup, and the start of the current campaign, Endrick returned to contention for playing time in mid-September.
Nevertheless, Alonso has shown very limited trust in him, preferring Gonzalo Garcia Torres as the alternative number nine option behind Kylian Mbappe.
After months of speculation, Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Endrick’s move will be finalized in January.
In line with previous expectations, he will join Olympique Lyon in Ligue 1 for the second half of the season, where Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca is expected to provide a conducive environment for the player’s development.
The latest details of the agreement, aside from confirmation that the transfer has been approved, indicate that Lyon will cover 50 percent of Endrick’s salary during the second half of the season.
The French club will also not hold a purchase option for the striker, who is valued at 60 million euros.
Endrick’s Very Limited Involvement
The 19-year-old forward has made only three appearances this season under Alonso, accumulating a total of just 99 minutes of playing time.
Of that total, 77 minutes came from his only start, which occurred against third-tier side Talavera de la Reina in the Copa del Rey last week.
By contrast, while still under Ancelotti and beginning to feel frustration due to his limited role, Endrick still recorded 37 appearances and managed to score seven goals.
When asked about Endrick’s lack of playing time, Alonso explained that the player is positioned behind Mbappe in the pecking order, while Gonzalo is also competing for minutes.
Although he still appears raw in several aspects of his game, Endrick’s goal-scoring instinct remains evident whenever he wears the Real Madrid shirt.
